SoCal-anyone have access to a pilot bearing removal tool

I need to replace my clutch, but am not that interested in buying the pilot bearing removal tool from Mazda trix fro 112 bucks. Anyone local interested in gaining a "rental fee" as incentive to lend up your tool. It would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't looked at a Mazda before, but many cars you can fill the pilot bearing area with grease, insert a wooden dowel which is very close to the i.d. of the bearing, and then give the dowel a quick whack with a hammer, which causes the grease to "hydraulic" the bearing straight out...

we tried that method when we replaced the clutch/flywheel on another members car, but it didn't work. Had a couple of rotor heads that have done that on several cars, but they failed several attempts to get it to work on that car.

They purchased a "standard" pilot bearing removal tool, but it didn't fit and was unuseable.

I have one at our shop you could borrow. U gotta come get it, or with a deposit left I could just ship it and you could ship it back. Give me a call at the shop or email me.

Keith: I know that Autozone has a 'tool rental' service at most of their stores. You leave a big deposit and can borrow the tool for a few days.

I called the autozone in La Puente (by my work) to see what tools they had in their inventory for rent. They had the slide hammer portion of a pilot bearing removal tool, as well as an entire blind hole removal tool set. Its a $140 deposit, refunded upon return of the tool. I'm going to try that, and if not...follow up the offer made to lend me the pilot bearing tool from FC.
