SD Tour

Results look interesting after Saturday.

Is this going to be another CS beats BS Tour? I thought you west coast guys were above that kind of thing.

I had not noticed that about C Stock but did note that it was very tight between Buetzer and the Sosti. Wow, and CS ran Heat 1!!!!

Glad to see the new guy (Braun) can't come into BS and dominate...at least so far. Too bad about Wood and Sipe who coned all 3 runs. Looks like a strong west coast BS field!!! I thought McHugh was going to run BS, but I see him in 2nd in AS.

Nice to see a new MX-5 leading CSP.

Yes, very interesting.

Nice to meet Mike and Matthew. Mike laid down some great times, but just couldn't get a clean run in. They are going to try a stiffer bar tomorrow, so we'll see what Braun can do with it.

Course was awesome. I lucked out and somehow had a first run good enough for 2nd.

Wow, I didn't expect to see the Mazdaspeed MX-5 lead C-Stock, what with it's 7" wheel width and 4.11gears/6 Speed...

Looks like the 8s are going to dominate BS as well. Familiar faces up front as well as down the ladder a bit. Good luck today!

The results show him driving a '99, not a Mazdaspeed. I'm not physically present to verify, though.

To me, the Mazdaspeed Miata makes more sense, as I'm not sure it was ever sufficiently tested by someone of Buetzer's ability.

They are showing final results of Heat 1 and 2 now and Buetzer won...barely:

Buetzer 113.017
Dietz 113.202
Lilliejord 113.907

Others of interest:
DS Luis 330i 118.810
ES Heitkotter 116.110
STS Norgaard Civic Si 117.926
STU Keene EVO 116.752
ASP Noll Ferrarri 112.724
BSP Berry EVO 110.262!!!
CSP Bauer 2007 MX-5 109.422!!!

He was running Tim Albins 99' Sport and not a Mazdaspeed MX-5.

He was driving a '99 last weekend and matched the Solstice then, too. Unless he jumped to a car that most people think is slower than the '99, and the results are incorrect, he's in a '99.

Rob Falkner fully prepped a Mazdaspeed when it first came out, and was classed in B Stock; he abandoned the car when he couldn't keep up with the C Stock Miatas.

I'm looking at the results again and, yes, it says 1999 Mazda Miata. It must of been wishful thinking on my part or just not enough coffee early this morning.

Sorry for the mis-information.

My bad. Given how many folks were jumping into Solstices from 99 Miatas and immediately going faster, you gotta wonder if he just beat them in a slower car. Awesome job, either way, because Dietz/Liilejord certainly are dominant themselves...it was a 3 car field.

Second year in a row of beating B Stock????

Wow, Bauer outpaxed CS, but DM outpaxed them both!!!!

Seems like a pretty exciting event. Congratulations to ULLLose. Hmm, how about those Hoosiers? Mwood, what was your setup yesterday?

I can't speak for mwood, but I'm sure all of us in Bay Area were bummed to see his T1 trophy slipping away with the wobbling cone on Sat. Your day will come soon, hopefully at El Toro Pro next weekend. Just think of the possibility had he ran Kumho instead of Hoosier... =P

Same goes for Baghead. A rightfully deserving T3, if not for those wobbling cones on both days. He's a never-let-up hero out on autox and the nicest pal in the paddock. Congrats to Debbie for T2 in BSL. Can't wait to see you two trophying at El Toro!

Anyway, looks like my fate was sealed even before I started, car number 11 coming in at 11th. Thought it was 10th at preliminary, guess the cone sheet had a correction afterwards. Too bad that there is no most improvement award, found 1.7s on Sat and 2.8s on Sun. The story of my life as a mid-packer.

I was the lucky worker who handed out timing slips for the end of heat 1, and heat 2 - when all of these drivers ran. They didn't have the best track or temperature conditions, but all of them were driving Really Well - they were all flying through that course. Their performance matched the times you are seeing not because of some other hidden advantage, but imo because of their skill, and a setup that worked really well for them here.

Man, those cones! Even BSL couldn't keep off of them. Fun course though!

Steve, those are great improvements, and in this field (many drivers with lots of years and miles of experience at national events) you did Great! And you will find that by running with these fast drivers, you are going to be faster too.

And, congrats to Jason and Jennifer on the first place trophies!

Fun event, great site, great people.

We did run on the "fat boy" Hoosiers, 35psi all around. The car felt fine. We'll see how it does on the El Toro surface, but so far it's pretty encouraging.

mike,

Did you run a different front bar?

Nice work. I was going to blame the cones on the Hoosiers until I saw TeamRx8's times.

Team, you could end up doing 25 to life with cone killing like that.

lol, except for the cone on the 1st run all the others were light kisses and love taps, never even knew I hit them until finding out after the run. I don't feel bad about coning them all out when it's just an inch here and there over the bases.

Event was one big test & tune for me. Tried something different and it didn't pan out. Car started off with great rotation LH but pushing on RH turns. Dialed a bit out at the practice, and then some more on Sat, but the extreme settings made it apparent that it wasn't the right thing to do. Put it back the way it was before for Sun, LH/RH balance was on, but loosey-goosey. Dialed that back for my last run and the car was just about perfect, driver missed it by mere inches tho .

Feeling very confident about the car going in to El Toro. Should be interesting to see how Carter does behind the wheel.

Hey Team, when is it not a test-n-tune for you? Damn, get the car setup and stick with it for awhile.

Although I'm disappointed that I coned my way out of the trophies, it was a great event. I was pretty happy with my driving other than that. The course was one of the best we've had down here at the Q.

I also enjoyed meeting some new RX8 drivers. It's kinda boring racing with Isley all the time. Oh, and thanks for the hot dogs Mike.

I was expecting DKNV to post that , been true to some extent but I'd say the car is pretty close to set barring slight adjustments as needed due to conditions. Turns out we were chasing shocks going off last year. Had no idea how bad they were until pulling them off last month and then seeing the replacement parts list after the rebuild.

Jason M., you done good. Lots of cones for many of us, except for the grizzled veterans like UHOSER, JGW, Joe G., Matthew etc. who were smart, and disciplined enough, to avoid them! Us newbs gotta learn somehow...now, Team, on the other hand...can't figure that one out, he's both old and disciplined (according to his better half) lol

BTW, you're welcome for the lunch. If we bring the rv down from the campground at the Pro, I'll be firing the grill up again for sure

It was great to meet you Brandon. And, thanks again for your help installing the front bar Saturday afternoon.

We plan on getting to the El Toro site around noon on Friday, maybe a little later. If people want to do a bbq on Friday, that can be done, no problem. Just let me know. On Saturday, I may leave the RV at the campground, haven't decided yet. Of course Sunday, I'll have it, as I have to hook up and go immediately following the event.

See you all on Friday.
