Your catch can is vented to atmosphere. Why didn't you route it back to the intake?

Excuse me while I scrape my jaw off the floor.......:bowdown:
... And begin to feel a bit sad about the attention to detail in my own build LOL Absolutely love it ! Fantastic work!! |
what did you do for heat/defroster since you took the HVAC out

Great work on the build. How much does the car weigh?

Just picked up this set of lightly used TTX 36's, custom built for an RX8. They are beautiful.
This means my Koni 2812 setup will be up for sale soon if anyone is interested. It they have literally 5 laps on them since a complete rebuild at ProParts. |
Beautiful. Bet they weren't cheap!
|
wow that's beautiful. can you post some pics of the rear top hat setup. what spring rate are you running on those shocks.
|
I'll opt for the 2822s , lol

Which transmission are running? And why not STU, instead of STL? In STU the weight restriction is lighter and you don’t have to run the restictor plate.
|
Series II trans.
The competition is better in STL, and I think the car will be more competitive in STL. AC |
Are you running the S2 final gear, regeared S1 diff, or the stock S1 final gear?
Are your running it without the headlight assembly? I see you’ve got the lexan rear door inserts, are you running CF fenders or door panels? And what about ABS and PS, what was your solution for this? I’m running one of Speedsource’s old Grand Am cars, and i’ve got no PS or ABS. Of course no one there remembers how they wired the car up, and the Motec system is so old no one at Motec is any help. I’ve been flirting with the idea of taking a donor factory harness and trying to rewrite the ABS from scratch. |
Good questions about final drive. I'm not sure, I should probably measure it.
Without headlight assembly. Just the gutted lenses. They won't fit with my oil cooler fittings. With ABS and PS. Have tried briefly without PS and it slows me down a little on some tracks. Generally like having ABS as well. Solution is the stock ECU with CAN bus connected. Neither will work without. May try Adaptronic ECU in the future. Sounds challenging. Keep us posted. Alan |
We gutted the factory rack and pinion and removed the factory electric assist motor which was just dead weight and made steering even more of an effort, converting it to basically a manual steering setup. It helped a lot, but there’s still some effort when it comes to steering which I’m sure results in some lost time.
The factory wiring and CAN bus is still in there and sending signals to the Motec, but nothing (or at least not the right signals) are making to the ABS and PS. Speedsource, and the drivers, can’t remember if they were running ABS/PS at all in Grand Am. Without rewiring the whole Motec the solution seems to be running a twin harness with factory CAN and ECU just to the ABS/PS, the issue may still be getting the right signals through to the right components. |

After months of work on this car it finally took a green, and subsequent checker flag at Roebling in Savannah, GA last weekend. There is still a lot of development to be done before it is nationally competitive but the potential is encouraging. The competition was light but I manage to set a new STL track record, besting the old one by over a second. Probably not a wise move since I'm lobbying for more power.
I also race a Spec Miata - put both cars on pole in qualifying and finished P1 in STL and P2 in SM. Not a bad weekend for me and Mazda. VIR in two weeks. |
congrats on a successful first run. too bad you're going to be at VIR a week before us. We'll be there for NASA Hyperfest on May 19/20. would have love to see the car in person.

Very nice. Thanks for posting the pics. Are you going to make lexan windows for the front doors I was considering it for the passenger side.
