Go to www.scca.com and use the Region locater, you should be able to find what group it is. There is a good chance its one of the ones on this page: http://www.scca.com/divisions.aspx?div=gl

You only need a helmet, many clubs even have loaners. You do need to be a member, but you can buy a weekend membership for $15 to try it out.

That's the Northwestern Ohio Region, or NWOR. I've run with them a couple of times, and they put on good events. Here's their website. It'll be a while before we start autocrossing around here though.

We have a local club that competes in SCCA events but we have our own as well, here is the link, www.noraracing.net also you have NWOR in your area, here is their schedule for 2009

Here are the dates. Locations are still to be determined.

April 26 Chrysler Plant
May 17 Toledo Airport
May 31 Chrysler Plant
June 28 Toledo Airport
July 12 Fostoria
July 25/26 ProSolo Toledo Airport
Aug 16 Alex Products
Aug 30 Toledo Airport
Sept 27 TBD
Oct 11 Fostoria
Oct 25 Chrysler Plant

THE 2009 DATES ARE SET, THE LOCATONS ARE STILL BEING WORKED OUT.

NWOR-SCCA Solo Event Schedule
Registration & Tech 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
First Gear (Novice) Course Walk - 10:01 a.m.
Mandatory Driver's Meeting - 10:20 a.m.
First Heat Cars start to stage in Grid - 10:40 a.m.
First Car Off - 11:00 a.m.

Pre-registration will be available through http://www.myautoevents.com approximately 30 days prior to the scheduled event. Payment can be made on-line or on-site. There are no extra fees for paying on-line.

Unless otherwise noted, the price for each event will be $20.00 for a SCCA Member and $30.00 for a non-member.
The $30.00 non-member fee will include the mandatory SCCA Temporary Weekend Membership.

There will be a form available at registration to fill out for this temporary membership. In order to expedite the registration process, please fill out the form prior to registering.

Non-members who pre-register at MyAutoEvents.com will still have to fill out the temporary membership form.

The SCCA Temporary Weekend Membership is good for one event weekend only. Non-members will have to fill out a membership form for each event attended.

However, there is a bright side to all of this:

If you submit one (1) temporary membership to the SCCA along with $60.00 or two (2) temporary memberships along with $45.00, you become a SCCA member. No more fuss!

Here is a video that we put out for our novices, as we have a dedicated section in our club for rookies and a separate class for them, where they get instruction from our more seasoned drivers. Here si the video, and if you want to come out to one of our events, please do.

We run a dual course event, 4-5 runs on each course, 8-10 a day and we start @ 10:00 and are done by 3:00-3:30. Here's our video, enjoy

Hope to see you at either venue, I know with NORA all rookies do get a coach to ride along with them and get coaching as well.

Check with other SCCA regions in the area. One of them may offer a autocross drivers school. Chicago region does. It's held once in the spring and we usually fill up with 150 new drivers.

NWOR had an autocross school in Monroe, MI on something like the first weekend in May last year. I'm going to try to make some of their events this year. Maybe I'll see you there. I'll have the WWP that's covered in mud. I'm no pro, but I'd be happy to let you ride with me.
