I am constantly amazed by the legions of losers who challenge each other on the street! Don’t get me started. Racing on the street is just downright stupid. There are other ways to prove your driving prowess without endangering your car, yourself and the rest of humanity. Unless your goal is to end up on COPS or win the Darwin award, just don’t do it. Let’s leave the 2F2F driving for the game consoles.
So how do we burn off some of this pent up desire to drive our cars to the limit? This has been covered before, but obviously it bears repeating:
1. Join a local car club. One of the best ways to get seat time is to spend time with other folks who love cars. The key here is to get involved and go to the events. Often, clubs will host hot laps or autocross events for members.’
2. Find your local SCCA chapter. SCCA events can run the gamut from road courses to drag racing. Here too you can meet other drivers, race against them and learn from the pros. www.scca.com
3. Take a driving course. Whether it’s a performance driving course or even a winter driving course, we can all benefit here. There are classes that don’t cost an arm and a leg, and you can pick one that lets you use your own car.
