It seems to be a consistent QC issue that occurs around the same place on all of them (RX8 Performance radiator). IMO the only possible fix will be to cut the end tank off and try to rebraze where the tubes enter/exit the end plate.

I ended getting a leaking one from somebody and thought about sending it to a motorsports radiator company to be duplicated, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I experienced the same w/ my RX8Performance DP rad. The DP design is of great value, but it developed pin hole leaks in 3 of 4 corners ...over time. After trying to repair it myself ...I finally found a radiator shop that was able to "dip" (the terminology they used) or otherwise apply a substance at the interface where the core meets both end caps. It was costly..., but resolved the leak, allowed me to salvage the rad of desired DP design, and was cheaper than replacing it w/ another rad of DP design.

You can see below the material they used to seal the core to end tanks on either side of the rad.

All the best.

ah ok, so they managed to reseal it from the outside then rather than from the inside as I had suggested. Interesting.

Interesting never know this process before
Thanks for share
Yes RX8 performance DP offer great value and good design , but QC Just not up there

I had problems with the radiator, cracked in the cold, and had to do a Chevy silverado radiator upgrade. So advised at the service station. Ordered here https://boostyourengine.com/silverado-radiator-upgrade/. Good quality. I think in the future the money spent on the radiator will return. It was a better solution than just brewing it.

I had a $900 Ron Davis radiator that failed after one track day in the same way.
Got a bunch of excuses and had to buy a new one because it was more than 90 days old.... even though it had only just been installed.

Worst part I had to buy another Ron Davis because of the custom enclosure and fan setup that was custom built to fit it

There’s a local company here that builds custom radiators that I intend to have quote the DP radiator.

Ya... and my second one is 10 years old and no issues. That was why I was so surprised by the response I got...

I had their radiators in a couple of cars before and they were bullet proof....

More Leak from rx8 performance dual pass radiator , decide to repair it
Throw on some unknow eBay OEM dual row radiator
Even pull off one fan to get more air flow for this track test

I can say it is not enough for serious track guy

You got the V-3 Radiator from RX8Performance? Aside from its reliability, how is it in regards to its performance? Compared to the previous radiator that you had

It work great for track
But is know to develop a pin hole leak

I see, does it manage to stay consistently cool in weather of 90 F or higher? I’m just really debating wether to get the RX8Performance 2.25” dual pass radiator paired with a low temp thermostat or to get the CSF 1.625” dual pass radiator w/ the low temp thermostat so i can fully utilize the cooling capability under any weather circumstance

I wouldnt bother with their radiator. if you want a good radiator without spending hundreds more for a premium radiator, go with a koyo radiator. not to mention rx8performance is not consistent with fulfilling orders.

This is what i know about the radiators so far, but based on this alone, makes me consider the RX8P Radiator V-3
  • Stock Radiator
1” Core
  • Greddy Radiator
40mm Thick Core width (1.575”)
1# Trust Adopted 40mm core for ensure adequate cooling with the correct volume of water.
2# Also incorporated an extra fitting for a 1/8pt sensor.
3# Aluminum Core with Buffing processing:
4# Aluminum material and buffing processing were applied for improve resistance to corrosion
  • RX8Performance ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE RADIATOR V-3
1# 2.25” Thick Core
2# Horizontal Dual Pass Flow
  • CSF Radiator
28 x 21 x 7 inches
1# 1.625” Thick Core
  • Koyo
29.9 x 24.3 x 7 inches
1# 2.086” Thick Core
2# Fitment Issues

^
Reason why i mentioned this is because Koyo has a small core then the RX8P, thats all im sayin

I have the Koyo HH radiator.... and it installed just fine.

Bigger isn't always better if the design and internal structure components are trash or cheap.

And more critical is the overall build quality of the Koyo is superb, where Rx8performance products have a typically poor build quality.

But what do I know. I'm just 13 years, 3 Rx8's, 2 turbo setups, trying to keep down +110 degree summer temps, worth of knowledge. No way I have any first hand knowledge or experience with a stock radiator, rx8performance radiator, ebay radiator, AND koyo radiator.

You sound set on the leaky crap radiator that you may never get after ordering however. At the very least expect to wait a while to get it after you order. A lot of people experience at least a couple month wait, or just file with their bank to get their money back (and many never do)

Or you could get a Ron Davis that leaked right off the start.. and because I didn't install if for 90 days there was no warranty

so your saying from the duration of the 13 years that you’ve spent owning 3 RX8’s, you learned that Koyo is the best Radiator to battle the +110 degrees of heat for the RX8? Even if the intake air temp was +150 F??? (I say 150 bc even when its 91 F outside, my RX8 manages to reach +150 F of intake air temp on just commuting for less then 30 minutes alone)

That's not what I'm saying. You're taking it a little literal. What I'm saying is just because the RX-8 performance radiator is dual pass doesn't inherently make it better than other radiators out there. You can have a dual pass but it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be more efficient just by that simple property alone.

I'm saying that putting money on a quality product is likely to yield you a much better result than one that advertises to be superior to most others from a company with her reputation of making claims and not later having the evidence to back up their claims as well as a reputation of not fulfilling the orders of paying customers in a timely matter if at all, unproducts where the quality is questionable.

I'm saying the koyo is probably your best bet unless you're wanting to drop at least $600 on a radiator.

Also realize that even on a 91° day that doesn't mean that road surface temperatures and air temperatures just off the road surface are 91°. Often the temperature just off-road surface is significantly higher than ambient temperature. And the air just continues to get hotter as it goes through the intake system in the engine bay up to the mass air flow sensor where we get the air intake temperature reading.

most people don’t understand that dual-pass means that coolant travels at twice the velocity through it than an equivalent single pass. Not necessarily a bad thing as velocity can impact turbulence which in turn can influence efficiency in such a heat exchanger device.

the point being; whether it actually is any better than an equivalently-sized single pass can be questionable and depend on other variables/factors.

Dual pass radiator is must for Track
For street , mountain any good quality radiator will do ~

sigh, many race cars have single pass radiators

again, if you take a square radiator and divide it in two to make it 2-pass, the velocity of the fluid through it will be 2x over the same single pass radiator, but the dwell time of the coolant in the radiator is still the same.

Some people maybe think it dwells twice as long in a dual-pass, but due to the velocity increase it doesn’t. Because the flow in and out of the radiator is the same, but in a dual pass the flow path is only 1/2 from having been divided in two, so then the velocity through it is double over a single pass.

It’s not exactly 2x when the width and height are different (rectangular), but the principle is the same. Regardless, the dwell time in the radiator is still the same if they are otherwise equal wrt dimensions etc..
