Rolex 24 GT class champion Randy Pobst Testing with SpeedSource!

Tremblay was pleased with the day's progress, and admitted that he was hopeful that Pobst would become a member of the line-up.

"I'd rather race with him than against him," he smiled.
That would be a great addition to the team!!

The word I hear is drivers of factory backed Mazda pro teams are no longer allowed to compete against Mazda products in another series/class. So guys like Pobst that drive in more than one series now have to drive only in a Mazda or pick a series/class that Mazda does not have a car in.

For instance he can drive a Porsche in World Challenge GT because there are no Mazda's in GT. In GrandAm GT now you have SpeedSource in there with a Mazda so the Porsche is not an option anymore.
Smart move, you don't want your best WC TC driver beating your other teams in another series.

Kind of like the Cup boys, you don't see Dale Jr running a Ford in Busch, always better for business to keep your top talent in your cars.

No doubt he can help put SpeedSource on top.

No, but according to RG's talk with them they are running 260-265 crank and 229-233rwhp. Read: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=205

There is also mention of the 350Z on the website... Appreantly it is running a stock engine and chassis, of course stripped and etc, just like the ST Speedsource RX-8. I am not so sure how they will extract 400hp out of the VQ in NA form.

The tubeframe 3-rotor RX-8 definatly has an advantage in the GT class.

I'm confused. I thought Speedsource fielded a Grand-Am ST car. are they fielding a car for Grand-Am GT next year as well? or *Rolex GT* ? (which I thought was a separate, higher-prepped class than Grand Am GT)

They field multiple ST cars in Grand-Am Cup (which has ST and GS classes), and started running the 3-rotor car pictured above in the Rolex GT class last year.

It looks like the Grand-Am Cup will be renamed the "Koni Challenge" for 2007.

The Grand Am Cup cars (Mazda RX8) are making around 250HP at the flywheel.

The Grand Am GT car shown is a 3 rotor that makes north of 450HP.

I am glad you said that cause I was about to have a cow!

I personally spoke to the SpeedSource guys when they were doing the Grand Prix of Miami last year at the Homestead Speedway. They were running a 20b (3 rotor) with 419 wHP NA. I have several pics wich they asked me not to show till the end of the race...I thought that was kewl of them!

They even invited me to come out and watch them dyno the car but unfortunatly they dont have office hrs on the weekends.

look at this list of the Competition
# Four-time Cup winner Jeff Gordon who is partnering with 2005 Rolex 24 overall winners and Prototype champions Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor in the No. 10 SunTrust Pontiac Riley.

For Gordon, the experience is new and enlightening.

"The car actually has quite a bit of torque and power under throttle in the slower sections, so you get a lot of wheel spin," he told reporters during a test at Homestead this month.

"Car control is important."

# Newly crowned Nextel Cup champion Jimmie Johnson is entered in the No. 91 Lowe's Riley-Matthews Motorsports Pontiac Riley alongside Jim Matthews, Marc Goossens and Ryan Hunter-Reay.

# Two-time Cup champion Tony Stewart is listed on the No. 20 Howard Motorsports Pontiac Crawford with multi-time Rolex 24 overall winners Andy Wallace and Butch Leitzinger.

# And 2000 Cup champ Bobby Labonte is expected to participate with Finlay Motorsports.

The list of champions is not limited to NASCAR.

Defending Rolex 24 champions Dan Wheldon and Scott Dixon, both who have won the Indy Racing League crown, are expected to drive the No. 02 Target Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus Riley. Also, 2004 Rolex Series Daytona Prototype champion Scott Pruett is entered in the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing Lexus Riley. Both teams will have to add drivers since rules require a minimum of three and a maximum of five drivers for the twice-around-the-clock race.

Also, three-time IRL champion and 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner Sam Hornish Jr. and two-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves are entered in the No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Lexus Riley with Daytona Prototype regulars Mark Patterson and Oswaldo Negri Jr.

Talking with David Haskell at seveonstock, they are making about 260-265hp in the 2 rotor. Remember it's on higher octane fuel than the street for more agressive tuning. The 3 rotor makes around 420 hp or so. They could have made more power though but opted to have more average power. Their engine makes less peak power than the Courage does and has a lower redline. They have more average power (torque) within their powerband than the Courage does due to longer intake runners.

that would be engine HP with emission equipment removed; no cat, non-emission header, etc. and some other mods like built engines with ceramic apex and other blueprinted/hand-fit seals, no A/C drive, etc.

EDITED: flywheel/engine HP is what I meant to type, my WTF?! bad

think I'm doing pretty good to be making 214 emissions-legal RWHP on a Mustang dyno with a factory engine, though I also am running their A/C-delete pulleys

Nope that's flywheel. At the wheels they do somewhere around 229-233 or so. They do not have ceramic seals or anything special done to the engines. People keep thinking there must be something special about their engines but there isn't. They are effectively no different from what you get in an RX-8. The engine is just better than most people give it credit for.

in fact it is so much better than people think, some tuners in japan are getting as much as 225 rwhp without porting! thats as much as the 13b REW did with twin turbos
