I wish I had one of their "nothing special" engines!! You think they would trade me mine for theirs?

Maybe I will ask them at the test days in a week. On second thought---- I couldn't stand the laughter.

The engine is just better than most people give it credit for.

edited, I thought engine HP and wrote RWHP, can only attribute it to a brain fart

and apparently at least some GrandAm teams are going through their engines, I wouldn't expect any less from Speedsource though I may have misspoken in their case:

There was a time when I was extremely impressed with Randy's capabilities. Probably one of the most memorable times was at the Palm Beach Fairgounds in March 1988 during a Firehawk race. Randy shared a Supercharged Toyota MR2 with Linda (his wife) in the Touring class. Linda had the first session (3 hours) and spun exiting a sweeper punting all 4 corners. After she brought it in Randy & the team literally pulled out every panel by hand and he squeezed behind the seat for the next 2 hours - dead last a full lap off the leader. It was a sheer treat to watch him drive when I had the chance. Learned a few neat tricks like swerving in front of a faster 944 Turbo (driven by Bob Akin) to be BUMPDRAFTED down the straight. (Bob was just on of a few very pissed Gran Sport drivers at that after the race...)

On the last lap Randy took the class lead and win - passed me about 2 laps earlier in 3rd.

Team Highball's Chassis 07 won the GTU class at Daytona, not just once, but 5 out of 6 times. Same chassis. 83, 84, 85, 86, 88. Amos Johnson the team owner lost his hearing in the 83 race. He never realized how loud the rotary was. They didn't have dB meters or chicanes at Daytona in those days.

The Grand Am cars are allowed to run different apex seals. Also, they are allowed to run a different (or remapped) PCM. These changes help to achieve the extra power. Most of the other modifications that are made help with the engine's longevity - things related to keeping the parts cool.

So I hear! A couple of Wolfpackers ought to be able to help the team out. Even though it can be a lot of work, I had a good time at VIR with the team. I got to yuck it up with Derek Bell and a few others. I met Patrick Dempsey (who my wife is a big fan of). You should have a good time!!!
