As sexy as carbon hoods are, from a weight savings standpoint they are nearly pointless.....I may still get one though

Stock trunk is at 7.1 kg according to Revolution and Odula. Revolution's cf trunk is at 3 kg and Odula's dry carbon trunk is at 2.3 kg.
Stock hood at 7 kg, Abflug's gfrp hood at 5 kg painted, according to them.
Seibon has a dry carbon hood in stock on sale now. 50% discount. That would be interesting.

Yeah! Great deal, not so great time for my (nonexistent) savings! Eh, that's life.
Friend of mine has a cf trunk with oem mazda "bread" wing. I have oem trunk, no wing. There is a noticeable difference when you lift them.
anyways, looking forward to your vision update. Car looking good, going for better.

I'd go ahead and purchase that 'dry' Seibon hood if it's a good deal. Imo, it never hurts to have options / multiples of parts. Especially if you plan to keep the car.
As far as the trunks go, my painted 'wet' cf Seibon truck with mounted cf 1450mm Odula GT wing plus hinges, latch, 3rd brake light, etc was about the same weight as the oem truck with spoiler.
Seibons' 'dry' trunk is easily half the weight of their 'wet' and I think they claim it to be around 5lbs iirc. I'll get the weight on the 'dry' trunk + 'wet' Voltex 7.5 1800mm when I return and the vehicle is ready. They'll be cutting through the rear section of the trunk to allow the chassis mount pedestal for the swan neck to pass through. Also deleting the hinges and trunk latch in favor of quick release / aero catch pins. It'll be a unique set-up (imo) so it won't exactly be apples to apples.

Kept it for 16 years, hope to keep it some more.
RIght now prices for shipping and tax/import duties are non logical in EU so options are limited.
Take care, nice pics from your trip on the other thread, enjoy the rest of your trip!

Update 11/19/2021
Hey 8Club,
After much thought and consideration I have decided not to pursue the attendance of a track event with my vehicle at Tsukuba. Given all the whacky things which occurred over this past year or so, I in good conscience just couldn't move forward with the plan. The unforeseen acute container shortage / shipping port fiasco combined with sustained unresolved supply-chain issues are a few major contributing factors for this decision. Had the shipping industry not experienced so many difficulties I think the plan would still be intact. I will admit that I would've really disliked having to wait months on end for my vehicle to be offloaded at port or even worse, accidentally misplaced / fell into the Pacific ocean, etc (especially at such a high service premium). Not to mention that all operating costs are personally financed and my being without a business or sponsorship to offset expenditures, this was unfortunately was something that I could no longer justify funding. Inflation is a real bummer imo, oh well.
This posting is a somewhat gloomy one for me as this was something I was very much looking forward to and truly believe would've had an impactful impression on my life but ultimately believe that everything happens (or doesn't) for a reason.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read or engaged in the conversation, take care
ps- I'll post pic's of the leg wide body and 'cup car' style interior upon completion

bummer to hear you won't be moving forward with that plan. It seemed like a very ambitious and potentially rewarding endeavor.
So what's the plan now? Any racing venues or events state side peak your interest?

Jedi- super bummer is an understatement. So far, nothing concrete although I am interested in the 'Road and Track' cruise event thing I posted about. I think making a trip out to COTA is very probable for '22 and I would absolutely love to attend a Watkins Glen HPDE but that's clear on the opposite side of the country. So not sure if/when that could happen. I also still need to figure out a permanent trailer(ing) solution.
Team- today you are the one sharing words of wisdom. Saving me from myself pretty much sums up my entire life.
