Racing Beat sway bars update for autox

Well, did the local scca autox school this past weekend, and let me tell you............the racing beat front/rear swaybars and the front RB endlinks really make a difference. Well worth the $$. Extremely tighter handling! here's a pic of the front bar with endlink taken under the car so only one side shows. Donna

Didn't the after-market sway bars push you out of stock-class??

NOPE. THE FRONT BAR IS ALLOWED, BUT TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, THE REAR BAR SHOULD PUSH ME OUTTA BS, BUT SINCE I'M JUST DOING REGIONALS, IT DID NOT. DONNA

Since you're new to autox I'll try to be nice about this... It may seem innocent to you, but it's still cheating and you're doing others in BS a diservice by running a car with illegal mods, and you may be cheating fellow racers out of some points by doing so.

The only way you should even consider running rear sway is if everyone in the entire class knows you are doing so and agrees to let you run with them. The rule is there for a reason, and a rear sway can make a big difference in lap times. You even pointed out that you noticed a big difference.

"Any replacement air filter element (or removal of air filter element); no plumbing changes, however"

Doesn't the K&N change the plumbing as well?

TO EVERYONE ABOVE: All the other people in BS (including the people in charge, KNOW that I have the rear sway bar and the K&N. They don't care. I asked. I am not that inconsiderate, so don't presume that I am! Donna

I'm sorry but that stuff just bugs me, if you want to race in stock keep your car within the rules of what they constitute as stock. The rules are there for a reason as are the non stock classes. If you are going up to every person in your class every week to make sure they don't mind if you run illegal mods fine, go for it.

Good, have fun!!!!!! :p Actually, see if they have an STU class, it may be better for you anyhow since it's a street tire class and would probably be better for you than BS since I get the feeling you don't have R compounds. Plus, the more people that run that class the better, maybe you'll start a trend and others who are tired of spending money on Hoosiers will join you

I'm pretty sure in STU you are not allowed a limited slip OR 18x8 wheels.

I think we should leave her alone and let her learn (and enjoy) the sport HER way. She shouldn't have to appease someone elses opinion of what she "should" do.

At least she checked with her competitors, and THEY don't seem to mind.

Killerking1964, you can run with me, in B-Stock, anytime you want to. I would be honored to run with you. At least you showed integrity, which is more then a LOT of people can say (ESPECIALLY at autocross).

What is integrity? Is it asking people, "Do you mind if I break the rules?" Or is it saying, "I know you don't mind if I break the rules but I'm moving out of stock class anyway."

I think what Killerking1964 did was okay, but then she has to ask every new person who joins stock class for permission as well. All it takes is one person to say no or change their mind and you have a problem.

In the SCCA National STU rules set, (not the Houston Regional rules) it builds off STX rules.

1) In STX and STU, 2WD cars... ANY limited slip is allowed. AWD cannot touch.
2) In STU, there is no maximum wheel width. They do however, have a maximum TIRE width: 2wd cars max 275 width, AWD max 245 width.

So, nationally, STU is MUCH different than the regional Houston rules.

I hadn't seen any STU rules (and had actually forgotten about it being announced), so I'll accept your explanation.

However, the point of all of this was that I think you guys are being a little hard on Killerking1964. I get the impression she means no harm, and if you ask the majority of new people who don't come back (after being chastised for having "illegal" modifications, or the like), the overriding response is that we take ourselves too seriously and don't let the new guys just have fun.

And, isn't that the idea for MOST people who autocross? There aren't too many people who are more serious than me, and it doesn't bother ME..........

I guess I just don't get the fuss, sorry.

Oh right.

On the one hand, rules are rules. They're there for a reason, to even the playing field.

Depend on how your resion is and the competitiors there if they want to look the other way really. Some regions are more uptight or more relaxed than others.

And when it comes down to it, it's about seat time. It's not going to matter what class you're in to get 'seat time'. You're still going to be beat by a more experienced driver.

So why not start off classing your car properly the 1st time?

I wouldn't mind her running in B-Stock along with me either. Now I personally wouldn't run in B-stock with those mods because I am the type of person who is a stickler for rules and would never like to hear "You only beat me 'cause you have illegal mods". I would rather beat the socks off of someone due to driving skill and "not illegal mods."

Now if she is only doing it for fun and no one cares, then no harm done...

Donna I don't want you to think I was chastizing (sp?) you. Honestly if you were in my region I probably wouldn't mind even though I am a stickler for rules. But there's always going to be someone out there that will be bothered, new people will show up everyweek and they might not know, etc... Then there's always the day you beat someone by 1/10 or so and they suddenly do care about your mods on your car. If you're just out there to have fun and learn go to what class your car fits in, if your car isn't as well prepped as others in STU don't worry about it and like I said, just have fun. It'll also give you more mods to work towards, and you won't have to worry about the nonsense of Hoosiers in order to be competitive as you get better.
