Official STX Wheels Thread
If I was going to use 17" wheels I'd choose the SSR Type C-RS for a very specific reason over all the other 17" wheels. Now ask yourself why that is?
A. Team always buys the most expensive parts - wrong
B. Team is an idiot - high probability
C. Team figured out something nobody else did yet - most likely
let the Engrish lesson begin:
best = best
affordable = affordable
cheap = cheap

Learn why RB Aluminum caliper kits are different from others.
This brake kit will fit most 17" wheels with the exception of 17” Enkei RPF1 wheels.

lol, didn't pay anywhere near that price
Plus I'm not running Daytona or Lemans. I'm running low speed autox on street compound tires and street compound brake pads. Despite what you read in their competitors marketing advertisements, I've run this RacingBrake package before and have no hesitation of doing so again. Not to mention losing almost 30 more pounds of unsprung weight.

Did a search over there and none come up for months and months. Also been looking on here and NASIOC without much luck. I think Chike was looking everywhere also and just ended up buying new.

I'll send you a pm. I found a place that has them for $200/ea brand new (17x9 in either the +35 or +45 offset).
I have also considered trying this... putting 255/40/17 Star Specs on a 17x8 wheel. What is the disadvantage of this setup? I've always been curious about the ups and downs of a wide or narrow wheel matched with a wide or narrow tire, and their affect on autocross. If any of you gurus could enlighten me, I'd really appreciate it!
The rough rule of thumb, from that ever-present source of street tire wisdom, Andy Hollis, is that once the tread width becomes more than 1 inch wider than the rim, you are just carrying extra weight.
So, for a rim that is 8" wide, anything more than 9" of tire is a waste of money & will actually be slower (due to greater rotating weight) than a 9" wide tire.
Of course, this is just a rule of thumb, and nobody knows for sure where that point of diminishing returns is on a 17x8 setup for an STX RX-8.
From a practical standpoint, sticking too much tire on a too-narrow rim affects turn-in, and the car could feel sloppy in the slalom. You may find yourself adding pressure to componsate, which reduces tread patch and will probably limit sweeper speed.
So, you could do it, but it is possible that a narrower tire would actually be faster.

And, looking at tire specs, most 255/40-17s have 9" or a bit more tread width, so by that measure you are probably not doing yourself any harm by going for the 255s on the 8" rim (other than, of course, acknowledging that a 9" rim would be better).

Barry - back to stock
I meant to say 10.5, with +43 they fit fine
The 10" I also have are +52
The size being asked about has been well discussed. I personally don't subscribe to the low offset theory, but to each their own ....

Remember these (anodized centers to protect the innocent
)?
Also, I still have the A6s Debbie won the Nationals with (I'm convinced there's another win in them
)Barry
I ran 245/40/17's on 17x9.5 +35 RPF1's with no rubbing. I also have 265/40/17 Direzzas on 17x9 +45 5Zigens that rub the control arms at full lock but don't disturb the fenders.
I have 17x9 35 offset enkei rpf1. And 255 /40/17 dunlops.
Simmons
Just roll and don't worry about rubbing!!
17x9 +28 Work Emotion CR Kai 255/40 R-S3 is what I am running this season.
Last season was with 245/45 XS. I don't know what I was thinking with truck tires! Ha Had so much flex.
