A lot of people had an issue with the strategy that I presented a while back. While acceleration alone won’t win an autox; rather the combination of both acceleration and handling combined, a vehicle that can achieve both can reach a particular point on the course sooner and at higher speed than one that can’t. This can allow the opportunity of upshifting to a higher gear that might not be afforded otherwise. I attempted to explain this to another competitor a number of years ago comparing acceleration runs between our RX8s. In this particular case both vehicles had the same gearing, but other factors were influencing the difference seen here

I'm classed in SM and looking to make alterations/modifications/upgrades to my setup to get just a bit more competitive in my class. Nothing crazy, but what i can do within reason for a daily driven boosted renny..
Youd be surprised. Most of what i know i need to focus on currently is the suspension (arms, alignment, sway bars and links, ride height), motor mounts (urethane filled or fully aftermarket?), brake lines and clutch line. I cant think of anything else at the moment besides seat time and good tires.
Hey Y'all. It's been a while. After consecutive summer time deployments I've had to stop working towards a DSP seat. I've also been given orders to a new base so I have had to start offloading what I have. Car and spare engine was sold to a local racer which leaves me with Anze/Penske suspension, still in box never installed, and a set of RX-8 R3 axles. I'm using this to up my post count for the FS threads later. Just wanted to say Thanks for answering my questions I wish best of luck to all of you in the future.

It's intended to align the rules with the intent. The prior wording didn't explicitly allow changes to the intake piping before the throttle body, though everyone knew it was intended for intake piping to be open.
Edit: basically somebody wrote in and asked for an allowance for a "cold air intake" meaning a relocated filter on a new tube. We all collectively realized the rules didn't explicitly allow a modification that has been present on every fuel-injected SP car since the inception of the category.
09' R3 with no DSP experience , but I got a stupid deal on some 18x10.5 forgeline wheels and my "will they fit" research lead me to this thread. My curiosity led me to reading the entire thing over the last couple days and I'm definitely interested in heading down the rabbit hole.
My car is mostly STX legal as it sits, and it seems like the main difference between being locally competitive (in STX vs DSP) is wheels and tires! I know I'll need suspension to really take advantage of the "purple crack" but I don't have tires yet and there seemed to be a lot of debate of what size is ideal. I hear "more is better" but this is not a dedicated race car (at least not yet) so I'm very curious to see what kind of results your "small and light" wheel/tire methodology can yield. My wheels came with 275/35/18 continental challenge slicks and they seem to fit well enough (on stock suspension) so I was leaning toward going with that size initially (unfortunately this compound is not auto x friendly)
Really just curious to see if there had been any progress in the last half year either in terms of race results in general or your build specifically?
I have the drivetrain sitting there ready to go back together, but have been sidetracked on another project because it’s convenient to be using my DSP RX8 for that purpose with the drivetrain out of it.

you could also consider the 255/35-18 size …

I have a set of 18x8.5 enkies with 245/4018 star specs, that I'll run in STX. My understanding is the 10.5's are too wide regardless what tires I put on them, hence why I figured I'd go as wide as I could "reasonably" fit. Is there another advantage to 255/35/18 besides fitment and potentially cost?

Sorry for any confusion, as currently configured the car is running STX, however the goal is to move into DSP and future mods will be toward that end.
I have 18x10.5 wheels (not allowed in STX anyway) but no Auto X friendly tires yet. My thoughts were that 275/35/18 would be the best to start with because going wider requires more effort to fit and going narrower doesn't really take advantage of the wheel width. That said, with the season half over anyway, and looking at past advice in this thread would suggest I'd be better off spending that money on suspension first and tires second.
