So I've been mulling over replacement shocks for the RX-8, because I want flat out just want to have a better track setup. I track my car (not autocross) about 5-6x/year. I want to do more trackdays now that I have a reliable car. This is slightly about looks too. I want a lower ride height

My favorite options are:

1) Revalved Bilsteins from FatCatMotorsports with Tein S Tech Springs.
+ I like this option because it's a nearly true off the shelf setup. I don't have time to tinker!
+ Reliable: I loved the Bilstiens. They were covered under warranty, but they never blew out or needed to be replaced over 100,000 miles.
- at $753 for the revalve, $400 for the shocks, and $200 is for the springs, it's a costly expenditure


2) Bilstein PSS9s:
+adjustable ride height
-Progressive spring rates
-not my ideal coilover setup

I'll eventually add sways, if need be. I like the way the car handles now, but I want a little less dive and squat under acceleration, and less body roll. I want a bit better compliance through the rear end too.

Anyways, any advice?

 

PSS9s are great dampers. I also liked the ride of JIC FLT-A2s...

 

Can't go wrong with a Koni + _insert spring here_ setup either.
I'm really happy with my TEIN H-Tech/Koni combo. Been tracking the car every 6 weeks on this setup, retaining stock sway bars and the car is at a perfect compromise between comfort and response.

Anyhow, either option 1 or 2 listed in the original post shall be fine.

 

Progressive rate springs generally are not necessarily the best choice for a track day car but being able to corner balance the car can be useful on some cars (if you are willing to go with that trouble and expense).

I'm a big Koni + spring fan also. Never had much luck with Bilsteins lasting (especially in colder climates).
