It becomes a win for the club if the "new AS" has greater numbers than the BS/CS cars that were displaced. Should the new AS fail, it will prove to be a bad move.
imho the writing was on the wall. With the RX-8 and many of the CS cars now having an ST outlet, the stock classes were only going to shrink further.
Looking at the numbers in SS/AS it seems evident to me that people want to drive fast cars. There is now another outlet for those people. And I see a lot of cool cars on that new AS list.

Too bad. With the inexpensive, fun to drive S in the mix, the class could have made some numbers and been interesting. Now, you have a $35k plus "point and shoot" Nissan, the remarkably unpopular ZOK and the trunk kit NC duking it out...meh.

Chike, I also agree the base Boxster could be lots of fun for the class. I'm just not sure it has enough to overcome the lack of camber and lsd...

Garbage in is Garbage out. I don't think it is possible for the SEB to be 100% knowledgeable on all items, much like the BoD, they just rubber stamp SEB recommendations. A good AC can really speed things up and gets items sorted out. One with members serving their own agenda make things a pain - I even voiced my opinion that I thought this was the case with one group, only to have it fall on def ears.
There has also been the problem of non-digital records for past items. Unless you still had someone around from when a previous change was made, there is no insight as to why. Even with someone around, it is their version of something that happened years ago, that they may or may not have supported.

Here's an old but good thread comparing the two cars (s2k2fast4me is Andy McKee, and it's left as an exercise for the reader to figure out who Jason Saini is ): http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...dpost&p=206302

Good points re: the Boxster.
Andy still has his car, but getting him out of that SSM rocketship is not very likely...
Now that I've had a day or so to think about it, I'm seeing how this new class could be very interesting, primarily because the Boxster was included. If it hadn't been, I think it would have just been CS pt II, i.e. hard to obtain cars leading to small classes and not much interest at a regional level.

I'd have to agree Mike. And from the speed that Bryan H. showed in an RX-8 throughout the 2009 season, I think the RX-8 is far from dead-duck in this class.

Here's an interesting perspective. In 1999, when I started autocrossing, my 1987 normally aspirated MR2 was in CS. Eleven years later, my 1993 Turbo MR2 is in CS.
