Not happy about that one. I guess when I wrote my letter in support of the merge I forgot about the S thing hanging out there. A car that had trophied in SS (among the Z06) will now be in CS.

I just hope the Boxster S and 370Z numbers will be enough to support this new CS...

Well the old CS/BS numbers were only in the low 30s/mid-high 20s range. I would expect with that mix of cars the number will stay around the same.

It becomes a win for the club if the "new AS" has greater numbers than the BS/CS cars that were displaced. Should the new AS fail, it will prove to be a bad move.

imho the writing was on the wall. With the RX-8 and many of the CS cars now having an ST outlet, the stock classes were only going to shrink further.

Looking at the numbers in SS/AS it seems evident to me that people want to drive fast cars. There is now another outlet for those people. And I see a lot of cool cars on that new AS list.

May be an oversight, but there are certain cars left off of the merger: 370z? 968?

i'm guessing the SEB felt they were a better fit with the old AS cars.
or an oversight...

ohh... and a little birdie told me the Boxster S is probably supposed to go to the new BS.

I just spoke with an SEB member and he said the S was a mistake in FT.

Too bad. With the inexpensive, fun to drive S in the mix, the class could have made some numbers and been interesting. Now, you have a $35k plus "point and shoot" Nissan, the remarkably unpopular ZOK and the trunk kit NC duking it out...meh.

Mike,

IMHO, a regular Boxster would still be plenty competitive in this new class.

See Brian Harmer's response below from sccaforums:

WTF, they moved the Boxster and left the Z4 convertible behind?

As a former SEB member the thing that bothers me most is there is little to no continuity as members go and come.

I agree.

Chike, I also agree the base Boxster could be lots of fun for the class. I'm just not sure it has enough to overcome the lack of camber and lsd...

I think the problem is less with the SEB, and more with the "subject matter experts" (ACs) they empower. I can recall on numerous occasions, while still on the SEB, telling certain members of an AC that they already had SuperDuperStock shot down twice by the membership, move on.

Garbage in is Garbage out. I don't think it is possible for the SEB to be 100% knowledgeable on all items, much like the BoD, they just rubber stamp SEB recommendations. A good AC can really speed things up and gets items sorted out. One with members serving their own agenda make things a pain - I even voiced my opinion that I thought this was the case with one group, only to have it fall on def ears.

There has also been the problem of non-digital records for past items. Unless you still had someone around from when a previous change was made, there is no insight as to why. Even with someone around, it is their version of something that happened years ago, that they may or may not have supported.

I doubt that can happen. It was never put out for member feedback to chop up the current BS, it was proposed to move as a whole. I don't see how the SEB could take any other action than to move it as proposed.

If true Jason then that's a problem. The purpose of the ACs is to do the leg work for the SEB, not be the arbitrator of decisions. Or at least that's the way it was when I served.

We went back and talked to past members often too.

Mike, remember that Andy McKee did very well in 2001 in a base Boxster against the S2000s, including winning the jacket. The S2000 wasn't fully developed back then, but then again the Boxster gained another 11 hp since then as well.

Here's an old but good thread comparing the two cars (s2k2fast4me is Andy McKee, and it's left as an exercise for the reader to figure out who Jason Saini is ): http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php...dpost&p=206302

You know I'm pretty sure when I spoke to GH a little while back, he still had his 2.7 Boxster. I wonder if he'll bring it out next season...

Good points re: the Boxster.

Andy still has his car, but getting him out of that SSM rocketship is not very likely...

Now that I've had a day or so to think about it, I'm seeing how this new class could be very interesting, primarily because the Boxster was included. If it hadn't been, I think it would have just been CS pt II, i.e. hard to obtain cars leading to small classes and not much interest at a regional level.

I'd have to agree Mike. And from the speed that Bryan H. showed in an RX-8 throughout the 2009 season, I think the RX-8 is far from dead-duck in this class.

Here's an interesting perspective. In 1999, when I started autocrossing, my 1987 normally aspirated MR2 was in CS. Eleven years later, my 1993 Turbo MR2 is in CS.
