Next year (SCCA Solo)
Is it me, or are there more people buying RX8s to compete in BS next year? on a few forums, I see a few new buyers.. so I'm wondreing... who's running what next year, that is of course, if you've made up your mind yet.
Me? Going to stay in BS for next year. I really want a new Saturn Sky, but I'll wait until they come out with the Redline version, and of course.. see how they do for solo.... so nothing new for me for at least a year.
Plan on doing the ProSolo season (if they don't totally disappear from the east coast) and a National Tour or two.
Any new faces to the national scene next year? The 8 is where it's at for BStock.

Too much money? It'd cost about $6-8K to make an RX8 competitive in STU. Frankly, I don't have that. Add onto the fact that this might be my last year with the car, I'm not going to dump that kinda cash into a car that 'might' be competitive, only to part it out at the end of the year at a loss... when some of that $$ can go towards the new car. (2 seater convertible.. Miata? Solstice? Sky?)

Also, are you going Ice Racing with your RX-8 this winter?

Nope, I have a Subaru Baja or a Saturn for Ice Racing.
I spent a decent amount of time driving many different cars during test N tunes and instructing locally over a couple years and I started to really like RWD cars. Subarus AWD was a good, but the suspension design sucked for tarmac. For Rally-x/dirt roads the design is great.
I would have gone with a vette...but I found them a handful. Since the S2000 was moving to AS I also tried a few AS S2000s and loved them. I tried M3s of varing types, a few other BMWs, but the car that I kept getting out of with a big grin on the face was the RX8. So after nats in '04 I put it up for sale, because after driving the WRX for 4 years (and competing in a Subaru for 6), I wanted something different, something to help make me a better driver. RWD is it for now.
I've done FWD auto-x. I've done AWD auto-x, I've done RWD autox. They all require different techniques to go fast in them. Right now, I'm hooked on RWD on a car that has a very proper suspension geometry compared to some of the other current offerings out there. I probably would have gone with a miata to tell you the truth... but I just didn't fit in them. The steering wheel wanted to be about 2" into my right leg. The new one fits me very nicely. A convertable woud be nice. Always throught they would be.
Those saying I was brainwashed by Mazda due to the 2 RevItUp wins don't know what they're taliing about. Yeah.. that's it.

I will be trying to compete in STU in my region, but that is about it. I am not good enough at it to try my hand at anything national, or divisional for that matter. 2006 will be my first full year.
I am going to make a few changes in the offseason, suspension and tires mainly. I looked at our regional results for the year, and if I went to every event, I could probably finish second on the year. SO that is the goal. Chase the Sti and see how I do.
Just out of shear curiosity, if you are modified beyond stock class, what else is there other than STU obvisoulsy. I know SM if a turbo has been added, but I aint goin down that road.
Thanks for any advice.

Hey guys, I am new to the rx-8 autocrossing, but I will be runnning BS in the central florida region this year. I have been runnnig various miata for the last 2 years and a SM civic before that.
I have taken the RX-8 to one event so far and I love it, just really needs the v710's.
It all bepends on how well I do this year if I will be at Nationals. I have never gone before but am very interested.

I've done low powered FWD, and higher powered AWD. I'm considering the RX-8 because of the balance offered by RWD, and an opportunity to learn a new platform. Also the balance of the power delivery vs suspension capability while fitting into a stock class that doesn't require a ton of car prep.
I just need to confirm that at 6'5" I actually will fit.

I would hazard to guess that you cannot get one with a sunroof if you are 6'5" and expect to fit in any sort of racing position with a helmet on. However, it depends to some degree where your height comes from, and also how big your butt is. I have a friend who is 6'4" and thin, and he fits fine. I am 6'2", and with my helmet, fit is a bit of a problem. This is without a sunroof. I am guessing that it is because I have a longer torso and a, uhm, taller(?) ***.
Take your helmet for the test drive. And, if you don't have a helmet yet, go to a store and see whether some are thinner than others.

I plan to run BS. Just need wheels and tires to start with. We still have 2 events left this year, a good chance to get a feel for the car. Got the FL State Championships tomorrow, should be fun.
