Is that a standalone Motec system? I hope you did that at the salt flats or on a track not on some highway.

no offense but it kinda looks like it was on a dyno? unless it was night (which would be REALLY stupid) but I dont see any light outside past the oem main guage panel... secondly - at 204 MPH I would question how the picture came out that clear and stable, thirdly it looks like the car is off for some reason -- the gas guage looks like its 100% dead.

Hmm - maybe I'm just weird but if it really happend congrats - and yes I Hope you did that on some salt flats or something.

Yup. I bet it was dyno'd..

I did notice it was in "test mode" on the lower left...

Probably B/S...
...and at 200+ mph, what idiot is going to take both hands off the wheel to snap a pix?

hmmm well the guy said "with a slight tailwind" implying that this was NOT on a dyno... I dunno, I call BS on the whole thing.

"Slight tailwind" Wind would have to be blowing faster than 204 mph just to obtain a tailwind that would make any difference.
Driving in a tornado maybe or at 30,000 feet.

Yeah, the gauges being dark should indicate something.

Arrow Doubts....

This guy is probably on the level.....

I know he sold his seats, mats, brakes, etc. so it must be a serious race buildup.

That said, 204 is an insane speed! I'd love some details on what he's done....

I kid! I kid!

It is an AIM data aq. and guage. My son and I installed it before running at VIR last month. During the install/testing we got a few crazy readings with the system until we sorted it out. Works great now. I can tell you that the car has been stripped and we installed the main roll hoop yesterday. Would you believe the sound deadening and insulation weighed over 30lbs. I will try to post some more pics (real ones) when I get the chance.

i was going to say, unless transmission or rear differential were modified for a higher top speed, or the engine had the rev limiter removed (and a whole lot of extra power added) 204 mph would be impossible to acheive

so what you are saying is that an airliner flying cross country at say a cruising speed of 300 mph, for a tail or head wind to have an effect on the plane, the wind speed would have to be in excess of 300 mph????

i think not sir

I think it was more the point that the only way the RX8 will reach 204 MPH with the stock drivetrain is if you put the car in neutral and pushed it up to 204 MPH - whether by wind, tornado, or whatever.

10K RPM in 6th gear, by my calculations, is about 198 MPH. You can't physically go any faster than that.

Yea, without changing the rear end, there is no way the stock drivetrain can go over 184.

Just what I was going to say... 204mph is impossible to achieve unless you really change the gearing. With a bone stock car... I ran 240km/h (~146mph) downhill with the wind behind me. The rev's were at about 7500 top out. The car would not go any faster due to aerodynamic drag. With a 9300 engine cutoff and stock gearing, the theoretical maximum speed is 288km/h (~176mph) if you have enough power to overcome the aero drag. Speedo readings are taken from the stock guage which are pretty accurate when using stock size tires.
