New Nationals Site, Two Thumbs Up
My co-driver and I had the chance to practice on the new Nat'ls site in Lincoln on Friday and Saturday and I am excited to say that the surface and site are great. High grip, easy to recover off line and tire wear on the RX-8 was similar to other high/medium grip surfaces I have run on. (Peru/Toledo/Forbes) If you over drive the front tires you will pay the price in tread wear, but "carving" rather than "sliding" the front results in what I would term a normal concrete wear rate.
We saw a variety of conditions, Friday temps in the low 90's and Saturday AM it never made it out of the 40's with gusty winds and off and on sprinkles.
The site itself is HUGE, literally concrete as far as the eye can see. A good variety of hotels, food, shopping etc is within an easy 10-15 minute drive. We owe a big thanks to Howard Duncan at SCCA and all the Nebraska Region folks for obtaining this site, Nationals 2009 is going to be awesome.
