New 18" Falkens
Any thoughts on these? Supposedly this is the replacement to the rt-215s
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...%2FPerformance
I am afraid these are less grippy then the rt-215s, but designed for better performance in the rain. Seeing how i will be only using these for auto-crossing, i really don't need to focus on rain tires. RT-215s dont come in 18", so its not like i have much of an option if i want to get Falkens. What do you guys think of these?

Not many concrete reports yet on this tire in that size. You'd be the gunia pig. Actually.. not many reviews on the new ones in any size yet. (from people I'd trust with their tire expereinces)
That and I just picked up another set of 040s for free, used for about 6K miles... so I won't be running out of tire this year to buy them.

no, more grippy , but I advise you to also consider the new Hankook Ventus R-S2

Ask Hercules
I just got my 615's put on the other day but haven't really had a chance to heat em up and put through their paces. I read where member Hercules got these a while back and may have better feed back by now.

For 18" the Hankooks seem to come in only 225s while the Azenis come in 275s.
If the new Azenis RT-615 are just as grippy as the RT-215, then i think that would be a great purchase. Unfortunately from looking at the treads, it seems as if the new ones would be less grippy on dry surface than the previous model.

all these tires have a 200 treadwear rating, I've seen over 20k street miles on Kumho V700 DOT-R tires with a 50 tread wear rating, you should be able to get good street wear out of them unless your alignment is exessive/f'd up or your tearing them up racing (legally or not)
if you are a serious competitor or want max dry grip you'll be shaving them down, this allows the full tread version to be a good street/rain tire, it really serves the market better in this regard

But if you get 10k miles out of any of these tires you're doing pretty well and probably drive like a wuss So if you're looking for something for daily use there are hundreds of better choices unless money isn't an object.
I think the 615s will be a fantastic daily use tire, probably one of the best for the RX-8, assuming you're looking for high performance & good turn-in as opposed to high wear. As for cost, they are much cheaper than most other top-tier tires they compete with, so I wouldn't consider them a "cost no object" tire like, say, a KD or a PS2.
Here are some good threads disucssing the merits of these various tires.

I'm always surprised at how quiet new tires are. Wearing tires get load but it's one of those things that creeps up on you like weight and old age . The first thing I noticed when I got in the car Wednesday was, man it's quiet. Now granted my S03's were plain bald with only the outer most groove remaining.
