My First race on the Horizon...

My first Autocross is Next Sunday in Charleston, WV.

Other than premixing with some 2 stroke oil, are there any other suggestions, or details I should pay specific attention to? I'm not really aiming to go all-out, I'm just looking to have a little fun. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I'm rocking some Toyo Proxes T1R's... any idea what kind of tire wear I'll be looking at? They are maybe one month old.

Thanks ahead of time.

Double check the torque on your lug nuts. One of the challenges I had when I first started autocrossing was to get over the fear of losing control of the vehicle. I had one run where anytime I thought I should be using the brakes I STOOD on the throttle and tried to steer the car that way.

It was very interesting.

After a couple spins I got the hang of it :-)

Tape up the side of your bumper... the plastic/rubber from the cones are a pita to get off.

I did one auto-x on my T1R's while I was waiting to get my R1R's mounted.. They actually held up very well. No chunking and no unusual wear. It's worth noting it was a relatively cool day - maybe 60 degrees. Your resulsts may vary.

Also bring:
- Glass cleaner
- Sun screen
- Lots of water
- Asprin
- White electrical tape (unless you already have numbers)
- A snack
- Extra air in your tires (I'd start around 40 psi cold and adjust down)
- A tire pressure gague
- Drivers license
- Cash for SCCA membership and entry fee
- Don't forget to remove anything that's not bolted down (floor mats, tire repair kit, tools, etc...)
- Good night's sleep

Someone else will probably fill in anything I'm missing....

Good luck, and enjoy!

[EDIT] I'd also recommend running sneakers. You'll be doing a lot of running / walking, so comfortable sneakers are a must.

Oh oh...I also just got my first race. It's a quarter mile event and then also a 1km dash! Against a BMW 325ti. I dunno much bout BMW's...they all look the same to me...hehe.

Anyone know the odds of beating this guy...or how that BMW performs?

Ah... okay, I'll play... this is assuming the 325ti is stock, you have a stock 6MT RX8, and you can drive worth a damn.

A stock 325ti has 192hp, and they weigh around 3036 lbs. Mostly, I'm seeing 0-60 times in the high 6's and low 7's.

In either a quarter mile or a 1km race, you should take him... if he's stock.

If you don't beat him, it's not your car... it's you.

lol...cool man. I'm looking forward to it...will let you guys know how it went.

I'm still learning to drive my RX-8...and there is the gear shifting problem I have (which I explained in a different thread)

Just hope I can sort it out without it being too expensive for me...I am yet to push my RX8 to it's max speed...got it up to 210 kph Friday. Had to slow down after that.

Although i do have a friend who is a contractor building an airstrip...said we could take our cars there and go play on the run-way...yay!

Geez but my RX8 also seems to be more thirsty than a normal RX8!!! I put in a full tank of gas...drove like 320km now and it's already below the quarter fuel stripe...that is horrid...lol...mind you I have been driving like I am being chased by mutated zombie cheetahs or something :P

Anyways, have a great Sunday guys...laters...
