My 8 vs a SRT-4
My friend recently bought an Srt-4 and i was wondering how these stand up against the 8 in the 1/8 and 1/4. I am a slightly better drive than my friend, but we are pretty close. thanks for the help

um...you could just google "rx8 specs" and "srt4 specs" and see how they stack up :D
i did and got this
http://mazda.jbcarpages.com/RX8/2004/index4.php
http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Sp...mid=-1&src=GBT
rx8 Performance*
0 - 60 mph [secs] 5.9
0 - 100 mph [secs] 15.9
1/4 mile [secs at mph] 14.5 at 96
srt4 Performance
0 - 60 Time -- 5.91sec.
(seconds) 1/4 Mile Time ----14.48 sec.
(seconds) 1/4 Mile Speed -- 101.80mph
(mph) Braking 60 - 0 -- 115 (ft.)
note:times vary upon testing conditions..and driver ability (test scores range greatly for the cars....rx8 range from 14.5-15sec 1/4 mile srt4 range from 13.9 - 14.5 sec in teh 1/4 mile)

road and track had an article comparing the cobolt ss adn teh srt4..srt4 did the 1/4 mile in 14.3 secs's or so if memory serves correctly. so it'll do low 14''s fairly easy......high 13's if you are good and push teh car. I believe Polak got a 14.3 in the 1/4 mile when he draged it...so low 14's are possible in a stock 8. so ther eyou have it hope i helped out.

The new SRT4's put down about 230-240 WHP stock. Its a really really fast car. SRT4's compete against evo's and sti's in terms of forward acceleration.
Here's a BONE STOCK SRT4 dyno from flyingmiata.net.

Screw gas mileage
You'll lose. Just accept it now and don't bother making excuses to him. But then remind him that he's driving a neon, and it's ugly.
SRT-4 is faster than the RX-8, but that is the ONLY category it wins.

Dodge underrated the neons engine for insurance purposes. If you just click on that flyingmiata.net dyno...you'll see where some of the "gem" srt4's dyno stock.
Thats an 03 too...which has less power then the 04's (generally).
249 whp and 289 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels is utterly rediculous for a FWD car weighing 2,970 lbs.
I keep waiting for a rich mazda 6i owner to try and swap a SRT-4 motor and drivetrain in .

Dark,
Not particularly. It can handle small amounts. Its the rod stroke that limits its maximum power. 5-6 psi is about max before you start encountering issues with the transmission, over 9 psi and you gotta start watching the bottom end.
The MPS 6 solves this problem through direct injection and a lower compression ratio (slightly lower). The DFI makes a huge difference in temperatures by having a cooling effect on the combustion temps, lowering EGT's. The MPS 6 also has an oil cooler, and minimal piping between the turbo and intercooler, so it doesn't need the same level of psi to reach its expected power output.
Its a nice system.

You need to remember the RX is a highway and turning monster. The neon is not It jumps off the line quick but handles at high speed like a Neon, you are comparing different beasts, he will step on you in the 1/4 mile

SRT4 Beat an RX-8 at the autocross today, both drivers was there first time. An instructor drove them both too and he turned a faster timewith the SRT-4, not saying it handles better, and I was pretty surprised myself but don't understimate the car as racing is a lot about the driver.

Tough to say which would be faster on a autox, a few factors to play in there.
Is the course a small tight one? Long sweepers etc.
But the truth is and something few understand is that the SRT-4 can handle extremely well, more so than its apperance lets on. In a 04 or above with the LSD it handles extremely well.

the srt-4 is defenetly faster than the rx8 in a 1/4 mile, but in the other hand the rx8 can drop a pair of panties in 3.2 seconds vs the srt-4 wich usually takes about 2-3 years untill the owner saves enough money to buy something other than a fast toy car...........

Don't hate me, I'm new to the board and have both!!!
First off all, I would like to say thank you for letting me be a part of this site. I haven't read that much, but from what I gather, I see enthusiasts rather than punks trash talking each other.
Anyway, I have an 04' SRT-4 and my wife and I just traded a 98' GTP for a left over 04' RX-8, (the RX-8 is her car). So now I can say my family has both!!!!! (both Red by the way)
My observation has been:
The SRT-4 is a bunch of fun in a RAW kind of way. Aggressive, loud, nasty, and it does handle better than you might think. Obviously it is wicked fast in a straight line.
The RX-8 is an outstanding car all the way around. Quiet yet forceful, sophisticated, yet juvenile, and handling.....WOW!!!!!
No the SRT can't compete stock for stock in that department.
I just think the demographic for each vehicle tells the story.
I'm 32 and all the kids look and give me thumbs up, etc. The RX-8 gets those appreciative looks and almost envious stares from an older crowd....usually.
Every time I drive them, I see/ feel differences. One pulls you, the other pushes you.
I hope this helps any of you with comparisons.
Thanks again,
KIKKER
