Well he was not in an RX-8, but mp5 got his first natl level win taking out 06' CS natl Champ Kevin Dietz to win SS in a Lotus Elise. Good job man.

TRX8 was 2nd in STU.

Congrats to both Jason M. and Brandon D. You guys must had driven like never driven before to be in Kevin Dietz's company. Great future ahead for sure! Feel free to skip RX-8 next year and continue your success in SS =)

Also a round of applause for TeamBaggy, good to see the car is finally dialed in and ready to take on STU by storm.

Congratulations! Kevin's an incredibly fast driver, so beating him at a national-level event is something to be proud of.

Wow, a whole thread dedicated to me. Thanks guys.

I thought when we first checked out the course that it would be good for the Elise. It was a very small lot, narrow with fast transitions and a turnaround. Kinda weird being at a world class motorsports facility and running on a crappy little lot. I ended up only using the brakes a few times and a lot of it was flat out.

I'm not sure how I found 1.3 secs on Sunday. I was probably just under driving the car on Sat, which seems to be easy to do in the Lotus. I was sure one of the 2nd drivers was going to get me. Brandon had been fast all weekend, and ended up with the best raw time on his last run but nailed a cone early. Kevin looked super smooth in the Vette, and just barely missed it. It was an exciting finish for sure.

Overall, I though the single course format worked pretty well. You get some of the excitement of a pro with the tree and a quicker pace, but also get to reset after each run and concentrate on nailing one course. The 9 attempts really helped us non-champion types catch up to the pace.

P.S. There was a scary incident with a Mini sliding off course and hitting 2 course workers. One of which was Jerry Lee, Deitz's co-driver. Luckily they were both ok after being checked out at the hospital.

P.P.S. Perhaps even more impressive than winning SS, was driving the Elise 750 miles there with flaky AC. Brutal.

BTW, looks like I'll probably be in BS for Nationals... and perhaps ASP next year.

Stupid cone

Great driving Jason.
It was good to see you again. Lets see your video's.
That lot is a little small but I think the grip makes up for it.

Yeah, the grip was surprising. The course was pretty good too given the lot they had to work with.

Sean has the memory cards with the video and he is a slacker with that stuff, so it may be a week before I can get them.

Congrats to both Jason and Brandon for coming on strong during Sunday's runs

the results for the Super Challenge aren't posted yet, but Brandon made the final four, I didn't see if he ended up 4th or 3rd

lucked my way into the final eight for the Super Challenge, was glad to get a few more runs probing the limits

I think BD got 4th. I got into the 2nd round, but then got fuel starve in the turnaround and lost a second. Guess I know to put gas in when the fuel light is on now.

My run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RydaOPOwaMs
Sean's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGFuNZTe3oQ

Or if you want a little better quality: http://www.kased.org/media/SLCPro/

I think Sean would've been right there had he not blown the turn around. (He caught some of the gas pedal when going to the brakes and went in too hot). Sounds like he was faster in the slalom judging by the rev limiter.
