6-piston brakes permissible in SCCA?

Hey, I need to know, almost immediately if possible, whether 6-piston front brakes can be used on an RX-8 in SCCA competition in any class. I've got a company working on a front and rear matched upgrade kit, and they asked if there's a "piston number upgrade limitation" for SCCA "Modified" or "Prepared" classes. Any and all help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Send me a PM please!
Eric

Should be legal in the following SCCA Solo2 (autox) classes, with rules as noted

Street Touring X/U:

Brake rotors may be replaced with any rotor of equal or larger
diameter made from a ferrous or aluminum alloy. Calipers are
unrestricted, but must mount to the original attachment points.
Drum brakes may be replaced with disk brakes of a diameter
equal to or greater than the inside diameter of the standard drum
part. Brake backing plates (dust shields) may be modified the
minimum amount necessary to accommodate allowed alternate
rotors and calipers.

Street Modified:

Brakes, including calipers, caliper mounts, disks, drums, lines,
backing plates, pedals, boosters, master cylinders, handles, ABS
systems, proportioning valves, etc. are unrestricted. Brake rotor/
drum friction surfaces must be 100% ferrous metallic. Carbon or
ceramic composite brake components (except pads) are expressly
prohibited. Standard parts, per 12.4, are exempt from this re-
striction. A functional, redundant emergency (parking) brake
must be present.

Prepared:

Brake systems, including calipers, caliper mounts, disks, drums,
lines, backing plates, pedals, boosters, master cylinders, handles,
proportioning devices, pads, linings, etc. are unrestricted except for
Section 3.3.3 requirements and as follows:
A. Brake rotors/drums shall be located in the original position (i.e.
inboard vs. outboard).
B. Brake rotor/drum friction surfaces must be ferrous metal. Carbon
or ceramic composite brake rotors/drums are expressly prohibited.
C. Addition, replacement, or modification of Anti-lock Braking Systems
is prohibited. The standard system may be removed in its
entirety or disabled electrically in a manner not readily accessible
while driving, but not altered in any other way.

Modified:

The use of any type brakes, pads, and components are permitted
(disc or drum). The location of brake components (inboard vs.
outboard) may be changed from original. The original “emergency”
or hand brake may be removed.

Just the man I was hoping would reply!

BTW Team, the guys building this brake kit remember you from your BMW days... Probably not so fondly if you had a habit of beating their drivers. I'm sure you'll respect their work as you've had to compete against their cars for years.

I figure it's not an easy task to better the RX-8 brake system, but I'm trying!

IMO my 4 piston RacingBrake kit is better than the OE system. I can't see six pistons offering anything beneficial for autox use. That's primarily a endurance track mod.

If they're going to set up a good brake system, they're going to design for the future of RX-8 use. I think these cars will make great "club sport" cars for years to come, and that they'll be used in all sorts of racing. 6-piston calipers are just slightly thinner, which will make fitting wheels much easier. Or to put it another way, it won't be necessary to change out most wheels after fitting this kit, which should make it more attractive to prospective purchasers.

That and having an e-brake compatible rear caliper too! :D
