For SCCA Solo Stock-ST-SP you can only take it out if it was intended that way and detailed in the manufacturer literature like a removable T-top, the ski pass thru between the rear seats, etc., etc.

For SCCA club racing it has to be replaced my a metal piece. Possibly aluminum would work. I forget the exact language. Certainly you would chunk all the related sunroof hardware.

 

In the GCR it varies by the category, but in general where they do allow it to be replaced by a skin panel it typically must be the same material and thickness as the roof panel - no free lunch

 

Yes, that sounds right, as I recall it must be the same material. I used to have an ITA 1st gen RX-7 that had the factory sunroof bolted down. It was obviously metal and not glass as the 8's is.
