Mods I need to make for a beginner drift car

I want to turn my stock rx8 into a beginner drift car, what are the mods I need to make so I can go to my local track and start learning how to drift?

firs thing is to be really really sure you want to use the 8 for this. you can buy and set up a cheap yet properly-controllable/driftable car for reallllllly cheap right now, rather than risking messing up your nice 8. If you're not concerned about that, then go nuts.

Probably want to get some good sticky tires up front and nice cheap tires in the rear. The car has a moderate amount of body roll for a drift machine, so some sway bars are a good and relatively inexpensive way to help that. The stock brakes are pretty sold, really, but get better pads than the OEM ones. Also, if you're going to be doing a lot of clutch kicking you almost definitely want to get a brace for the clutch pedal, the OEM pedal is pretty weak-sauce; search for Black Halo Racing to find a good one.

Lots more stuff on these boards, hit that search button....

why do people want to be "drifters"?

you'll want different wheels
tires
suspension
brakes
say goodbye to clutch

elysium hit the nail on the head. back tires will go quick, and i mean quick. fronts will be ok for a while so get some sticky good stuff up front and go cheap in the rear

driftings not all about the power in your car its where you get you power. if you have 400 hp and it hits at 7 or 8k and your drifting against a guy with 300hp that hits at like 4 or 5k he will win.

/\ exactly why a turbo is the the cheapest solution ...
A local pro drifter here tried drifting a race prepped 8 with a stock engine and found it pretty hopeless .
Yes he could make it drift but not very well ....

^^^^ you should pick up Modified Magazine or DSport this month. They have an RX8 pushing 450 something NA, no turbo. The things completely carbon fiber. Goes to show you rx8's arent hopeless without turbos!!! although, it was one of those three-rotor swaps

no way an N/A 8 has 450 hp. There's gotta be some sort of FI there.
Maybe a non-turbo 20b?

because driving sideways for style points is easier than driving for the lowest possible time ... ok, a lot more younger women with less clothing attend drifting events too

you're first mod needs to be trading your RX-8 for a different car, preferably one with a lot more power capability

A great insurance policy so that you can get a new car when you total this one.

Cheaper to do a turbo kit than a 3 rotor. Glad to hear that you know nothing about it.

I've often wondered what kind of impact scantily clad women would have on autocross events...

Higher run times for the younger drivers.

I went out to the first Drift Indy event in my RX8 and had a blast. I've just got sprint springs and new wheels/tires. I had a blast and learned alot about the car.

My next upgrades are Stance Coilovers, stainless steel clutch line, new clutch, and then finally a turbo setup.
