Final results are up: http://www.scca.org/documents/result...20results2.pdf

Looks like my buddy James took the win in STX, while Neal was a close 2nd. Congrats to Harvey on the win in STR!

Tell us some stories! How'd your car feel on the Lincoln concrete?
.5 back from the Subies at a pro event... not too shabby IMO .
The entire STX class makes it into the Super-challenge? You guys must not have gotten the beach-party invitation. Must've sucked to see Jacobs launch with that much of a dial-in advantage....

Wish I could've gone. Instead spent Saturday morning installing a used transmission in Yellow (the replacement turns out to not have reverse or 5th gear) Good times. .

Was giving up 0.3 - 0.5 sec on the launch to the Subies, but reeling them in at the end of the WOT section when not overcooking the tires off the line. I'm glad that Neil Tovsen convinced me to stay for the Super Challenge. I probably figured out the most that weekend on those four runs. Bottom line is despite the high grip surface my car clearly has too much rear transient response. I should have done better i.e. drove poorly, but the rear shocks are coming off for a revalve. Not to make further excuses, but I've learned the Yoks need some heat before working well. Another cool weather weekend and running in Group 2 really hurt in the morning. The tires barely got warm even in the afternoon. The grip difference when they warm up is substantial, almost R compound-ish.

I have a supposedly good trans - never been in the car but was rebuilt by a Mazda tech. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

I haven't run on Yoks since an event a few years ago. But what you describe is very similar to what I noticed comparing the AD07's vs. Star specs. They felt like junk without heat... but then swapped on a set of Dunlops for the later runs, and they were much more drivable from ambient.

Thanks for the offer of assistance. Currently awaiting a call back from the salvage yard with a replacement for the bad one they already sold me.

Yes, despite the fact that this is only my fourth event after building the car completely with every possible allowance all in one total shot over a non-stop 10 week period, many of which are uniquely custom fabrications having a miriad of adjustment combinations to test and sort through, coupled with a completely different setup that nobody else has developed yet either, I am not worthy of anything short of total loser status ....

Thanks Chike

BTW, based on what I've seen it looks like you made a solid choice in acquiring the Hankook R-S3 tires.

After watching both Ken Motonishi out west and then Chris this past weekend I'm almost wondering if I should have done an STR build with a 3rd gen MX5 instead ... these cars are both gorgeous and great contenders for the class.

Not to take anything away from Chris' solid win because they haven't done much prep work to their car yet, but ex-RX8 pilot Brandon Davis coned and RL'd away winning times in STR in a 2nd gen MX5 on 225 tires Brandon and Chris were really duking it out, this will be an exciting class coming down to Nats!

Yup, I settled on the RS-3's based on some pm's from Kraig Klippel and comments from Hollis over on miata.net. One caution about these tires -- get a co-driver. They need heat to really work, but when they have it, they work really well! Plus they keep getting faster & faster as they wear. Washburn finished 2nd at Nats in ST on RS-3 s with over 300 runs on them.

I'd also have to agree about the gorgeous stylin' of the NC2's! I'm seriously thinking about getting one in the next 1-2 years, but I want to wait and see what Mazda comes out with for the ND.
