Just when you thought we were out.....

The LIGHT gleams at the end of the tunnel...

Rumor has is that in the coming season the powers that be over at the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car series is changing things up, which will work in our favor!

Target Horsepower will be lowered to the current USDM Honda Civic motor- about 225- which is right in line with what a good RX-8 race motor will make. the VW's and other turbo cars will have to detune to a lower power level AND weigh more to ensure parity.

Working on getting the minimum weight lowered from 2800lbs to 2700lbs, which will help with our lack of straightline speed, and its looking good.

What does this mean?

Well for us it means that instead of relegating our existing RX-8's to Club cars they will continue to soldier on in World Challenge, and with a solid driver we can continue to run up front.

It means we will potentially build or buy more RX-8's which potentially will allow us to lower our per race rental cost, again adding to car count.

It means there is a fair amount of motivation on the part of the series to bring up the car counts, and the current formula needs tweeking so that the turbo cars are not overly dominant. What they are looking for is a return to the good ole days when we saw 30+ car counts in TC. Since there are many RX-8's out there left over from Grand-Am and running in Club Racing, the new formula should allow these cars to come out and run competitively again.

It also allows Club racers with well prepared cars to come out and run their cars in a Pro race when the Series is in the area. I am working on a proposal to WC that would give a discounted entry fee to a first-time or local club racer so they could come out and be part of the show at a (more or less) reasonable cost.

Things are lookin... up.

Don, this is GREAT news! Did they use the data from mosport to see how much we lost on that back straight? What was our top speed?

Fantastic! I would love to see more RX-8s, and RX-8s doing well, in this series!

that is indeed great news. Maybe it will even help Mazda's street (fading performance) production line development.
