Insurance for HPDE

I searched this and got nothing, so just let me know if this has been beat to death.

I want to do an HPDE this summer, but I've confirmed that my insurance won't cover me while I'm out there. Is there any agency that could sell me like a day-long track coverage policy? Thanks.

Hey.

I did a quick Google search, as there used to (like 15 years ago) be insurance for this.

Wow, what a change. Seems like the only deal is http://www.prosure.net

Their online calculator says that for a $30k car, it will cost you over $900 !!!! With, a $2,000 deductible.

That's fairly resonable considering the overall risk, especially if you're attending many track days per year. I've seen several cars totalled out there.

Don't mean to advertise for someone else but I got this in my inbox in Feb. Last time I inquired when it was prosure it cost $600 per year with a $1000 deductable. Not a bad deal in my opinion if you have a loan on the car.

Good Afternoon,

It is with great pleasure that I announce to all of you that I have continued the development of the on-track insurance program I began in early 2007 with Snellings Walters Insurance. The company that I started after leaving Snellings Walters, ProSure, was recently acquired by The Furman Insurance Agency in Pompano Beach, Fl. I am working with the Furman Agency as a motorsports insurance advisor continuing to operate out of my Atlanta based office.

We are launching a new and improved on-track insurance program for HPDE’s with enhanced offering such as LIABILITY and Storage, Transport & Paddock coverage. Over the past year nearly 30% of the inquiries about this program were questions concerning liability coverage. I have spent the entire off-season working with carriers to offer this coverage and now we can. I have attached our newest application that captures the information necessary to quote you both STP and On-Track Physical damage for your car. *(registered vehicles will not qualify for STP).

In the coming days my email address will change to chris@furmaninsurance.com, but please feel free to send correspondence back to me at this address until such time. If you have any questions please email or call me at the contact information below. If you are interested in a quote just complete and send the attached application back to me and we will get you started.

I look forward to working with each of you this year. See you at the track!

Regards,

Christopher S. Maume

Thanks for the info. Ive looked at prosure, and looks like they'll want about $500 for a month. Gonna call them today and see if I can get a better price for a shorter term policy. Anyone know if the tracks themselves ever offer coverage? I'm headed to Mid-Ohio.

Here are a couple of other options I came across but have not contacted yet.

http://www.everittboles.com/index.htm

http://www.capcoverage.com/motorsports.html

The first appears to be a UK based company. Let us know what you come up with. $5-600 per year of 10 or so events would work for me.

Well, here's the deal. www.capcoverage.com offers insurance at 3% of the value of the car, minimum of $1000 premium annually, or about $83/month (for an RX8, expect that rate). For a year's worth of coverage it's definitely worth it if you get on track a lot. Most insurance companies that do this, like capcoverage and that British outfit, actually go through Lloyd's of London for their policy so all the rates will pretty much be the same, but capcoverage.com has the best customer service by far from all the companies I called (the prosure guy was harder to track down than Jimmy Hoffa). I haven't decided whether or not to go forward with the policy yet, but it's there for anyone who wants it and the price isn't unreasonable either.

For comparison racing insurance is typically 10% of the value per event as I recall. (I never thought it was worth it myself)
