RedSheDevil,

Don't overlook conedodger's suggestion about autocrossing. It is a great entry-level venue for aspiring racers. It's cheap, accessible and safe but with a good adrenaline rush. Its an excellent way to learn car control before going *****-to-the-wall (or the female equivalent ) on a track day. Understanding the limits and dynamics of your car can be great confidence booster on the track and on the street.

Mistakes at an autocross event only damage your ego, not your car. And the only required attire is a helmet. Everything else is optional. :D

Hey RedSheDevil,
I hope you didn't take anyone seriously who told you girls don't post here. I know of a few, myself included.

Not meaning to scare you off from trying, but if it were me, I would strongly consider finding an instructor to take me for a ride on a track as an introduction. Maybe 99.9% of the time there is no problem riding with someone who is not an instructor, but that .1% is not where you want to be. Some months earlier there was a track incident where a girl who was a passenger in a vehicle which lost control, ended up in the hospital. Some lessons-learned I remembered reading about that incident included
1) make sure, if you borrow a helmet, it fits properly. Do not use one that is too large. It is your brain that is at risk.
2) make sure the vehicle is equipped with proper safety equipment for the type of event you are at. Just one example: make sure the seatbelt fits you properly.

Good luck. Hope to read about how much fun you had.

Soooooo ... my solution, seeing as how ive never been to a track (outside of the drag strip) ive conned someone to take me along for the ride so i can check it out next month at RA.

anything i should be on the lookout for while im there?

thank you for allowing me to post here .... and :p to you who said i couldnt! :D

Hi RedSheDevil,

Welcome to the racing forum. When you go to Road America, you should find some people to hang out with in the evening to drink beer, watch Le Mans, drink beer, watch racing videos, drink beer and play racing video games...

And make sure you go to Siebkens one of the world's best racing pubs.

I heard he was only off on turn 14.

Autocross is fun for collecting trophies and laying the smack down on your friends but you get much more driving time/$$ spent on the big track.

If you want to push your car to the limits in a safe environment, I'd recomend a car control clinic. Unfortunately, the next one is not until next summer.

Another good way to practice car control is by beating the **** out of an MX-5 during the ZOOM ZOOM live.

We can have a drift competition. Longest lecture (by the people running the event after we drift) wins!!!

I think the best way for a beginner to race , is solo II. there's nothing to hit but cones. so you can learn the handling of your car without worrying about hitting walls or other cars. solo II autocross is actually more technically challenging than road racing, because your tires are at the limits of grip much more often. it's safer too, since you're not going over 100mph and again, there's nothing to run into. plus, it's only ~$20, and won't finish off your tires and brake pads in one day.

im going to look into this next season ... it sounds liek lots of fun! and the thought of hitting cones vs wrecking car into wall is very appealing at this stage!
