Woah - that is going to cost some serious money - and since it happened at the track, likely no insurance will touch it.

As odd as this sounds I have on video a number of times when my Dad co-drove my Corvette and had pedal problems, his Corvette is an AT and when he would drive my 6 spd car sometimes he would hit the brake instead of the clutch when trying to shift or he would hit the clutch instead of the brake when trying to slow down. You get use to that big brake pedal and if you are trying to left foot brake a stick car I guess it can happen. My Dad took my Corvette off the end of the main strait at PIR at 100+mph once doing that, luckily back in the day you had a lot of run off room and he got away with it.

I just ran with PCA yesterday and all those cars have the pedals offset to the right and it makes it tuff to left foot brake. imho * I am not saying that is what went on here, I was not there, just mho.

It was a SCCA event at PIR, I believe.

I hate it when this stuff gets thrown all over the internet, it serves absolutely no constructive purpose

Also, the owner (Doug) is a good guy and with Tom as co-driver, they were on their way to a really fun season...now that's down the drain

I'll just say that getting used to the pedal arrangement in the Boxster has taken some effort at retraining muscle memories.

Please know, scsi, I wasn't flaming you at all for posting the link...it's human nature to pass along something like that when we see it

I just get bummed that the internet can so quickly circulate something that is:
1. unfortunate for the participants
2. unfortunate for the Solo II community
3. a crime against all that is right in automobiledom (wtf?)

That sucks....Definately not good for our sport. With pictures like that flying around it will not be long before the insurance companies start looking to where the Solo sport has evolved.....400 hp porsches on R compounds.....Not exactly childs play.

like someone mentioned, its strange that they had people parked so close to the finish line, or so close to the course at all

Its very important to underline the safety of Solo in general. It is a motorsport, and with motorsports there are accidents. The amazing rarity of events like this in general per participant is what makes Solo the safest form (I believe) of motorsports.

I know no one would ever want to be a part of an accident link, but I just wanted to say thanks for bringing this up. My region has similar site problems, and just this past weekend, my own car almost got hit at the finish line (we too have to grid pretty close to the course)...

I guess I take for granted that autox is the safest motorsport, but this thread has at least sparked me to discuss with my local region what we can do to prevent that sort of thing from happening.

And from what I've read, most insurance companies will only insure driving schools, not competitive timed events.

No one was hurt. If someone had been in that Celica rolling to the start or if someone was getting something from their car, this could of been bad. To underline some elements of safety, the guy who just destroyed $200k in cars is standing looking at the accident without apparent injury.

I would not infer that the course had insufficient run off or that cars were parked too closely. Based on coversation with someone who was there and has tons of experience with autocross, that was not the case.

That's one of the dangers with posting this kind of stuff on the 'net...lots of very important context and detail is not available, leading to speculation which, if read by the wrong people, could be damaging to our sport.

So, assuming the account of what happened is correct....what recourse do the "bystanders" in the Subie and Audi have?? (assuming they signed the site waiver but were not registered to run)

does the waiver suspend all liability between all participants, or does it only protect the club/site? I feel sorry for those guys more than the P-car duo (assuming they were parked in a designated area)

If the cars' owners signed the waiver, legally they have already waived their rights to pursue resolution. A great reminder to make sure you understand what you are signing before you get your wristband. Item 1 in the waiver says it's your responsibility to let an official know, and then leave, if you see or feel something is unsafe; item 3 says you assume full responsibility for risk/property damage, whether or not its caused by someone else.

http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/sccaformMS-1.pdf

Now, an attorney may have advice for recourse; though many in our sport would not choose to pursue the matter in court, but to try to work it out amongst themselves. I hope this can be one of those situations, it only gets ugly and nobody wins when a court has to be involved.
