Headroom and Helmets

Any one have problems with their helmets and the low roof line. I have a 05 6sp with the touring pkg (with moon roof), I am 5'11" and I like to sit close to the steering wheel. I have not autoxed the RX8 yet but I hit the headliner with a new Bell magnum. I will have to tilt the seat back more than I want to fit. Anyone else have this problem?

Yep - It's a tighter fit for me since I'm 6'1"

Some have problems and some don't. If you had searched the forum you would have seen other threads about this topic.

yes, open the moonroof shade, lean your seat back a bit, and adjust the electronic seat controls so the seat is at the lowest point possible. I'm 5'9" and helmet still hits sometimes.

I'm 6'2, just ran the first event in the rx8, it was close, I had no issues. I just put the seat to the lowest point. I do not have a sunroof or electric seats. Maybe the electric seats don't go down as far as the manual ones. I have no idea if that is the case though.

I have that problem also, I swap out seats on track days for more headroom.

yep, at 6'-1" it is a tight fit. I certainly would not want to do any kind of endurance driving like that. I am developing a small rub spot on the headliner from the helmet. Oh well, I could not live without the sunroof.

I had that problem in my RX7. The white helmet had a red scuff on it. No problems with the RX8 (Sport / no sunroof). I'm 6' 2".

5' 10" with moon roof and I have to radically change seating position to keep my helmet from hitting on every right hander. Lower the bottom all the way and tilt the seat back. Got dinged by my NASA instructors for shitty seating position since my seat back is tilted too far back and my arms have to reach out to far. I can't say it has ever been a problem for me in 20 to 25 minute sessions but I suspect I would get tired pretty quickly sitting that way in a much longer event.

I am only 5' 9" so no problem for me but in the past I have driven some rather tight cars. Once you start a run you forget all about it. For the most part you will never be upright in the seat unless you have a 5 point harness.
