having trouble drifting, synchro/gearbox problem?

I just take issues with any aspect of "racing" that is more subjective in it's scoring than time based. In any form of racing there is no such thing as a tie and the winner is clearly defined by who gets to the finish first.
I enjoy watching drifting (or what some locals call drifting) but I prefer the rather cut and dry aspect of traditional racing.

i'm more of a track time attack guy myself, im just here to learn, drifting is just like a little hobby and fun. and all of this is done in a huge, vacant parking lot, that has been vacant for the past like 5 years. its like an acre of open pavent and a few unlit lamp posts every now and then.

stay in gear. I've hit long sweeping corners and I just hold 2nd(or 3rd depending on if I want a fast entry or not). If you are first starting out drifting the 8, don't shift to 3rd. Keep it in 2nd. Control the throttle and clutch kick it if need be.
A buddy of mine who drifts a turbo miata, drifted my 8 around the local course with no problems. Lots of clutch kicks and fast entry speed.

05rex8, why do you hate him for drifting? Also, i wouldnt want to see anyone crash their 8. I dont see what is wrong with learning to drift, the japanese can drift almost any car and they do drift alota 8s and 7s.

So, reviving a month old thread, but part of me, as a driving enthusiast, is just itching to say something. Here I am, poking around looking at random threads and came across this one. I have to say, what a bunch of negative bastards some of you lot are. The point of drifting is that it's FUN. Now, I'm just as competitive as the next guy (or girl), but I know when to let go and just enjoy driving. Drifting would be one of those times. It's an excellent change of pace from the cut and dried track stuff. Drifting as a motorsport has a long way to go (Flashwing is right, it's too subjective), and it's not the fastest way through a corner, but most drifters aren't looking at speed, just fun. Still, the car control techniques you learn drifting (just as the techniques you learn in every other form of racing) will help make anyone a better driver. To those of you that just had to run your mouth and be ********, pull your heads out of your fourth point of contact and get over yourselves. You probably don't have the talent to even begin attempting to drift anyways. The rest of you, carry on.
One thing dude, make sure you find a track (or even an empty parking lot for all I care). Do not endanger other people trying to drift on the street. All it takes is one mistake.

Seriously dudes, lighten up! Its DRIFTING, not street racing or chicken or some ****. Even if its not your thing you have to admit the level of skill and car control required to get a car sideways with such precision is pretty up there. I mean c'mon, it makes just about as much sense as drag racing, right?
That said, I think one can do better than the 8 when it comes to drifting. I'm not saying it can't be done successfully (take Kyle Mohan Racing or the JIC D1 machine for instance, though both are 13Bs), but the RX-8 is definitely one of the more difficult cars to drift
