having trouble drifting, synchro/gearbox problem?

i can't seem to up shift while mid drift, if i'm holding a drift in either first or 2nd i cant get it to go up a gear, like 1 in 6 tries when it does want to go in, it bogs out and i slow down.

thinking maybe its not enough power, today it was raining, and i'm at my usual spot, i'm holding a donut top of first, like 8k i think and try to shift and it still won't go into 2nd, but when it does it bogs out!

any ideas guys?

That is not a transmission issue.

You are lacking power.

Actually, after re-reading your post.... maybe your synchroes are shot hence why you're not able to shift into the next gear.

You're still lacking power to hold a drift though...

If you are having problem with your transmission and you can't afford a new one or a rebuild then try using Redline Heavy ShockProof.

My third gear synchro was shot so I started using that and it fixed the problem for me.

A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities.

Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness similar to a 75W250 grade, while providing the same low fluid friction as an SAE 75W90.
The only thing with this fluid is that you have to change it every 15k miles.

maybe its your motor mounts allowing too much movement in the drivetrain?

Maybe its the fact you are wasting your time trying to drift.

you need a transmission rebuild or replacement, all the other answers are wrong

i can shift fine in a straight line, for 1/4 mile times i can do 1-2-3-4 with no problem and run upper mid 14's consitently, i can shift while driving spiritedly too.

i just can't do it mid drift, or when it works it bogs

not enough power, i wont know for a while, no big mods coming up

and i'll try that red line fluid in the near future and see, if nothing else goes i'll dealership it and see what they say.

as for shot synchros, only 12k miles on it. so idk.

and my judgment thought this would be best place for this thread.

Just come in 3rd gear----clutch in-----rev----throw it to 2nd------- and pop the clutch--
slide----counter-steer-----keeping it out is a matter of clutch kicking. The rx8 has power to drift, its the matter if you know how to put it to use, keep the revs up between 7-9K RPMS..

yikes, 7-9, i dont have that much throttle control yet, right now im like 5-9 range, trying to work keeping the revs constantly up.

down shifting isnt a problem, its up shifting. i can drive in 3rd, and shift into 2nd to start my drift, its the matter of running out of speed and needing to upshift

Just a question by why are yall bashing him??? Everyone has to learn somewhere... so? please dont say yall have never gone to a parking lot before and had some fun, he came to yall asking for help, not to be bashed and hope he crashes...

sigh... as for your problem I have no idea because i have a auto, from my research though it does seem like your synchroes, the 8 does have the power to drift... go back to the video of where Motor Trend did the best handling article or watch the video online and the guy will say it himself the 8 is easy to drift... mostly because its so neutral

boy all this hate for drifting, in a forum mostly full of autocross folks!! IMHO, drifting is approximately 3 orders of magnitude more interesting than autocross, at every level. IMHO! But opinions differ.
Live and let drive... or drift
