Fully Custom One Piece Bolt In Rollbar with Pics

Just had a custom bolt-in rollbar designed and built for my RX8. The car is used for HPDE events, but I still need access to a back seat for my daughter. I hope I dont even have to explain why you should NEVER put someone, much less your own daughter, in the back seat with a rollbar.

This is not a kit, it is a custom designed rollbar and reinforced feet all around. Not a typical bolt-in job. It comes out in one piece and takes about 20 min to install, start to finish, including removing the passenger seat.

It was designed by TC Designs in Campbell, CA. Huge thanks to them for their design and fab work. Let me know if you have questions. Paint goes on tomorrow.

Very nice!, I've been considering doing something similar. Since I really don't like the cutting involved with the autopower bar.

Very nice.

What would it take them to recreate one? Or, have an agent of theirs re-create one locally? Or, are they interested in shipping one?

It does look awesome.

04Green, can't speak for the OP or TC Designs, but I'd start by talking to a local cage builder to see what they can offer.

While I cannot be certain, I'd guess they would recreate one. Keep in mind part of the work was welding steel plates to the car to reinforce and strengthen the mounting points. Naturally, the car needs to be present for that's work.

I've raced cars with full cages and even though this is a bar and not a full cage, it's really quite impressive looking.

PM me if you would like details about the builder, cost, etc.

If you seriously track your car I highly recommend one. Purely my opinion, but I'm not a huge fan of the over the counter bolt in bars. There's plenty of commentary (for and against) on the forum and certainly enough info for you to make an educated decision for yourself.

Either way, be safe and smart. We can replace our cars, but not ourselves. Always happy to chat online or offline about safety stuff. Feel free to PM me if you like.

That's a nice looking roll bar. I have a few questions about your seat and seatbelt arrangement.

Are you running racing harnesses?
How is your seat mounted in the car, more specifically is it on a slider bracket or fixed position?
Have you considered a seat back brace?

I like your setup and want to do something similar with my car. I'm having a hard time finding a seat back brace arrangement that I am happy with.

Thanks

That's a very nice looking roll bar you had done. I would like to get a rollbar, suit, SA helmet and HANS for the next season. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay your local fabricator to make that setup for you? Feel free to PM me if you don't mind sharing, but don't want to post that publicly.

Yes, I am running a 6 point harness. The seat is mounted to the stock location using aftermarket mounting brackets and are fixed position. The belts mount to the rollbar and stock locations. The sub-belt is mounted to the floor via a custom bracket. Seat back braces are required in racing for non FIA seats, but I do not have one in my car. I did have one when racing Spec Miata.

Best of luck to you, post pics when you get your setup done!!

I dont mind sharing and I highly recommend my builder, TC Designs, if you are close enough to Northern California. They build the roll cages for a large number of racers here in Northern California. The rollbar will cost between $1,600 and $2,000 depending on what kind of customizations you request. I was on the low end of that.

Side note, it makes me very happy to hear you have a focus on safety. For your sake, please dont use a rollbar, racing seat, and harnesses without a HANS.

Happy to answer any other questions.

Dan
