DSC on/off ?

No active stability control with it off, so the car will be 'looser' under adverse conditions. Some people say that the mileage is improved with it off. This doesn't make much sense to me, though.

thanks for clarifying, but if my logic serves me right dont you want to have the DSC on at all times to protect against those unpredictable things that can occur out on the road?

yes absolutely................until you want to have fun. Also purist would say that they want full control of their vehicle, not a computer....hence the "off" option.
I for one like the feature seeing that it saved my *** on a slippery rainy/wet leaf covered road the other day. Other times I opt for the off feature when I want to push out the rear end on the cold pavement ........I get that out of my system and back on it goes.

All the vehicles that I have seen Dyno'd have had the DSC feature defeated. Also the DSC was defeated on most 1/4 runs because you dont want to risk the computer sensing wheel spin at launch and pull back power.....ruining your whole run.
That aside---in the real world--The car will go just as fast on the highway and around town with the system functioning. You really have to start the process of losing traction....(wheel spin-or-laterally sliding) before it works its magic. Its a fairly unobtrusive system thst has far more pro's than cons.
so to recap.....if you keep the car planted....it will be just as fast with it on. push the limits.....it will reel you back in.

One of the downsides of DSC, TCS and ABS is that it tends to make drivers think they're invincible. Unfortunately, the laws of physics still apply.

I find DSC/TC very intrusive, and can't seem to go fast at all with it on. Of course, that's likely because I'm one of those maniacs who works DOWN to the limit, rather than up. I'd like to ride with a truly smooth driver with the system on to see how it's supposed to work.

Just a reminder...you have to hold your DSC button for a full 7 seconds before the system is completely disabled. If you just flick it off its not truly off.. You can tell buy not being able to turn it back on untill your next start up. I know there's supposed to be a difference between the 1-push DSC off, and the 7 second hold DSC+TC off, but we've had snow on the ground for 3 weeks now, and I find that I am always turning off the DSC (1 quick push), because the car is very controllable and I much prefer being able to slide the car as I want (4 proper winter tires, of course). With just DSC off, I can have as much wheelspin as I want, and I can have the car as sideways as I want (who says drifting is tough? ). I'm not sure just what the extra 6 seconds to turn off the TC is getting, since I don't find ANY TC intervening with the quick push turning off just the DSC.

I just took a performance driving course at Portland International Raceway. Being a chicken with a brand new car with a temp sticker on it, I ran the first three sessions with DSC on. The last was with DSC off and TCD off (I believe ABS was still on). I improved my lap times around 3 seconds and it sure was way more fun. You can spin the car (although I didn't) but your ability to power out of a corner wheels spinning right to the curbing to set up for the next corner is amazing. The 8 is a great neutral rear-driver and DSC defeats that on the track. I may not have much of my tires left but the fun quotient was worth it. DSC on the street is always on. Track always off (unless you can't drive or it's wet).
