DRIFTING in your RX-8
Sliding, I wouldn't consider what I did drifting, but a friend of mine owns a restaurant and has an empty lot behind the restaurant that's bigger than a football field. The other day I had seen it completely empty and asked him if I could do a few tricks and he agreed to it. So I tok TSC off..and..well..I was sliding ALL OVER THE PLACE. I'm gonna see if I can borrow a video camera from a friend and record a tape soon.
hi. i dunno if someone already brought this up somewheres but i dun wanna read thru every message in the forum so anyways. ya i try drifting my eight and i do the shift lock and clutch kicking and it works well and all but i wanna start doing more proffesional drifts. the long drifts with hard angles but the thing is. . .the ebrake. the best drifters say to use the ebrake in a drift to keep it sideways and with a good angle but with my car the ebrake like. . .doesnt lock when driving. i need a way to make it lock the rears. can anyone help?
well 3 of us rx-8 member, me, hyiung and azmee went to drift with the KSOC members on an open space with huge car parks for exhibition.
hyiung's car is Type S 6MT, Azmee one is 4AT, Mine is type E 4AT. everyone off their DSC and drift, Azmee's car drift fine, Hyiung's car drift fine too. but mine couldn't drift. what might be the main problem? Tires? or ECU tuning? we drift using 1st gear. azmee & another experienced driver tried my car and found that the car is going front but not side ways. well ... anyone got this experience before? DSC is off and we can feel it. just that its not drifting.

Quote from rx8Maine:
""OK, back to the original subject.
I am not a fan of "drifting" per se, but I would like to be able to get the back end out at the skid pad to practice the recovery, which I have heard is very touchy in this car.
I was at a skid pad event last year with my STi and an older couple was playing with their bone stock RX-8 and could not control the oversteer. When the back end stepped out, it was a spin every time. I don't want to discover that problem for the first time on the track at speed in a corner with a lack of runoff. I never asked them how they were getting it loose, but it seemed liek they were getting power oversteer in second at low speeds.
I added -1 degree of negative camber up front with 7 degrees of caster and know for a fact that the car will try to step out if I lift in a corner, but WILL NOT POWER OVERSTEER in second gear. It is glued. While that is a good thing, I wish there were a way to get it uncomposed so that I can learn how to recover it. The problem with using a throttle lift to induce oversteer is that it is too short lived. The car will either skid to a stop once sideways, or will immediately hook up if I add throttle back in.
Any suggestions?""

you guys start a drifting thread and don't hit up drifter d???
i'll just chime in with a few things: 1) tho the 8 comes with an LSD, you NEED an aftermarket LSD, 2) we have a parking brake, not an e-brake - it sucks and cannot be used like the e-brake in my S13, 3) boost does wonders... heh heh.

Drifting is cool and I would love to learn how to drift. But it is by far one of the more exspensive car hobbies. If you wnat to be good your going to have to go through a lot of tires and unless your sponsored unlike most of us you don't have that kind of cash to spend. Plus I like totry keep my car in control not try to manipulate it when its out of control. I'm road course all the way.
hi guys, glad to know of so many others that are into drifting and are drifting in their 8s.
I have a dilemma, I am comtempting on the new RX8 6AT (with peddle shift). I am quite worried I will have hell lots of problem drifting in the 6AT transmission and that the gearbox might give way sooner as compared to a 6MT transmission. Some of u guys might ask, why a 6AT ? The spouse thingy of coz
any pointers to share ?

Heard about that 1 auzoom... not far from my place, and they were greek girls too!!
300zx and partying at chapel street...... hmm = big big malakia!!!!!!!
My mum was on my case about this accident.
a) i dont drive at those excessive speeds on roads
b) if i know im goin to be out partying/drinkin I DONT DRIVE
c) my car has better brakes then that car
Geez -- bak to topic, doesnt cost much to go onto a track/skidpan and just do your thing without worrying about injuring urself OR OTHERS!

I'd recommend buying some stock tires off of this site for cheap and get to a drift day. It doesn't cost as much as you would think. Most of the people there are cool and will teach you all kinds of stuff. The car drifts descently well stock too. 1.5 rear feels pretty good too.
