well thanx for the observation and words of insight. man you really blew me away with this hole golf thing!!! to me personally, golf is the sport of all sports. one man vs mother nature at her best. i get the impression you have never stood on the 1st tee box at 6:45 and saw the sun just coming up over the fairway. and the way the wet grass shines like a big mirror looking into heaven when the sun hits it. im getting all verclimpt talk amongst yourselves....... so now that we have that out of the way. . . your right, it is a techneque. a tecneac that is used on almost every turn threw out the lap or run. so i guess because you like analogies ill make one for you. bouncing the bball all around in different ways is also a techneque. the Harlem globe trotters practice this technique and "perform" in front of a audience. it can also be said that the globe trotters are a very skilled and talented group that only a select few could even dream about being a part of. much like D1. and yes i think an nba team would win against the G.T. but that in no way lessens my respect and admiration for the group. drifting is drifting ... streatball is streatball ... and picking your ass is picking your ass! if you would like to call picking your ass a sport i would stand behind you.....way behind you. but for me i could care less what anyone calls anything because its still a thing. and the next time i pull up next to someone in a drift able car and ask them "do you drift" they will know what i mean. man i do talk to much . :D

Now for a little tongue in cheek: Is the Miss America Pageant a sport? It's judged like drifting. It takes a lot of talent and practice like drifting. Hmmm, it must be a sport!

I'm sorry but we have bastardized the meaning of the word sport just like we, as a society, have bastardized the meaning of everything. I mean if a woman marries a woman is it still a marriage?

I don't care what "sport" you are involved in, if there isn't a quantifiable, i.e. time or such, non-subjective way of measuring it's outcome then it's a judged exhibition just like figure skating or any of the x-treme "sports" that are now popular. One man's opinion.

I had a friend head to colorado to watch a drifting contest. She said a rx-8 was entered, and took first place. Personally not suprised because the rx-8 is such an amazing car. Second place was taken by a volvo station wagon thing. Just a while ago me and my dad went for a test drive in the rx-8 (second test drive for me) The sale rep that was with us was having me push the car hard. Like taking a 25MPH turn at 55-60MPH. That test dirve I saw and felt what the car could take. My dad said the Rx-8 is a true sports car (and was totaly suprised by the cars quality, He thought it would be cheap and tinny..."like most japanese cars"). I think the rx-8 is a perfect drifting car and when I get one, hopefully in 5 months, I plan to "play around" with the car, and learn to drift, as it felt like it could handle it. The car was designed to go fast in the corners. As long as you respect the car it will do anything for you.

almost anything.... i still cant get her to not use her teeth....jk its cool that you got to push the car but man i would hate to be the guy that bought the one that had 11 miles on it when it hit 9000rpm!

any activity where you can drink beer while you play is not a sport...

Not only did I try Drifting but I brought my son and two other young boys and what a blast to go around a warehouse parking lot and go sideways. The best thing was that the car stood under control wend I needed it to do so!! :D :D :D

Houston was getting really good, but now im in Austin and autoX"s are the thing here....well for now:D i had a chance to play with my car today! i really love a fast 2nd gear turn in that thing!!! you can feel the exact point at witch the rear wants to slide out. then you just pull the triger and counters like hell. oh man i cant wait to drive home:D

man i cant find an open parking lot where i live :/ if i could i would so try to do donuts and practice drifting... i actually got my back to slide a couple of times but dont really have much experience and dont wanna reck the car...

also just cuz its judged doesnt mean its not a sport.... ie. Diving, gymnastics, figure skating? and alot more i guess... but im tired so cant think of any more

well if you want to practice and not wreck you need to get some good brakes! the dif is night and day and they make braking drifts and e brake drifts much more easy. i live in austin and most of the time the best place to drift is in a u turn or a L on an a protected <-. i found that the asphalt is smoother in the older parts but also has more holes and other inconsistencies. some people dont like to drift on the streets but i have no problem with drifting most any turn that has the space and the right pavement.

I normally practice drifting around the road around my house. Yeah, I know it's not legal but the road is very twisty, and it allows for mistakes; there's no big barriers or very large trees. However, there are curbs you should avoid, especially if you want to not get into an accident. Yeah that probably doesn't help, but I just wanted to share my story. :)

I probably should go to a drifting session soon, before school gets too hard.

My method is pretty much letting the tires break loose around the full turn, or if they don't, I just hit the e-brake to stir up some trouble. I don't know if that's the correct method, but the whole point is control. http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung...smiley-029.gif

im sorta the same way. i like driving more of a grip line with a little bit of a jerk in the steering and a little to much gas at the apex. im not confident enough in my drifting to faint the car into a turn at 60mph on a two lane road either. but i am starting to gain some confidence by doing that in big intersections where i can carry good speed and have plenty of room to stop if something goes wrong. i know i keep saying this but if you find the right place to practice ( one turn or patch of smoooooooth asphalt ) youll be able to slide without drastic speed or complex maneuvers that can be very intimidating for any skill level driver. now my car is two inches lower and i have RB sways on the front and rear with some good rotors and pads so its a little dif than the way it handled drifting stock. one time (at band camp) before the car was dropped i tried to power over out of a hard left hand turn and the body role combined with my delayed counter steer caused the car to pitch from one side to another in a sorta violent way. i think another reason that it snapped from side to side like that is because the road was new and they used real abrasive concrete. but now my car has much more turn in capability and the lack of role makes "control" easy to achieve. p.s.thanx for your post

I need to get stiffer sway bars to get more control; the car exhibits sever body roll, which scares the crap out of me sometimes. You mentioned a similar situation, but I still think it'a all about control, with a little bit of confidence.

This is why I'm looking for good suspension components. I want a stiff chassis with minimal body roll. Classic case. :)

here is my fave. my car is set up almost the exact same way. brakes..sways..intake...my drop is a bit lower but i just hope my shit looks this good on D-day

drifting is a joke. Its like figure skating compared to hockey. dont even call it anything like racing, sliding is not the quick line through a curve......Also, you should be careful with drifting if you dont have the GT model, No LSD = unpredictable....

the first thing you lern before anything els is that drifting may not be the fastest line to take. no one is trying to say other wise. but before i get all worked up over another idiotic clame about how the best drivers in the world are actualy a joke because they dont time there "EXIBITION" ......... im going to go to my happy place and pray for all the less inlightend ones out there that have no ability to recognize true talint and respect thoughs who acomplish amazing things with the one thing all people on this forum truly love.......their car:D

hey Kart, just so you know practically all race car drivers know how to drift and use it as a technique depending on the race they're in, it's been going on since the early days of auto racing but never hyped or anything until recently. Sometimes it can acutally be the faster line if done properly, (this I've witnessed, gotta' love Speed channel) maybe you need to watch some old school footage (early 20's) or some Pikes Peak races, there's WRC where drifting is pretty much a requirement or check out Keichi Tsuchiya from the JGTCC etc. I too am a bit sick of it being overly hyped, but I also know that it does require a lot of skill and control and looks beautiful when done properly. It seems drifting is a lot like soccer, some people get it, some don't.
