Qualifying done. Big day of 12 hour endurance racing tomorrow.

Mt Panorama is usually a tight mountain road however several time a year it gets turned into a race track for some spectacular racing action.

Yup. There are mailboxes behind the walls at quite a few points across the top of the mountain.

 

Very cool track

 

And a spin with damage.

Not getting much TV coverage other than the issues. Disappointing, though not unexpected.

Building up to a exciting finish

 

I'm not really surprised that Mercedes just got put into the wall. I mean, it shouldn't happen, but... they were leading a long freight train of faster cars and not pulling over, guarding the racing line, etc... , to the tune of letting the leader get 27 seconds ahead of held up 2nd place in a couple laps.

It was bound to get someone upset or impatient to get by.

 

Maybe not 'put into the wall', but likely cut the tire from someone squeezing by.

 

The slower cars need to give way however, there are some teams deliberately holding cars up.

 

Sigh.

The only RX-8 coverage is when they wreck or spin. I thought they liked rotaries in Australia.

 

Unfortunately, it is no where near the same class of the top runners. The class A get all the attention.
