Autocross Maintenance
Autocross Maintenance
Well after an inspection of my braking system yesterday I have decided that its time to replace some key components...
- brakelines (have stainless steel braided lines that are being modified as we speak)
- speed bleeders (on order)
- brake pads HP+ (ordering them this week)
- rotors
- Superblue brake fluid
We haven't discussed rotors much because we know that the stock rotors are more then sufficent for the stock RX8. Infact a majority of the race teams are using the stock rotors. Well we haven't really looked at the scenario of regular maintenance. I am now at the point that the rotor needs to be replaces or turned. I am figuring I should just update them with the rest of the brake system.
With that in mind does anyone have any suggections?

Yeah, I think you're right on the stock rotors. The only aftermarket ones that I see regularly in signatures and such are the Power Slot and Racing Brake slotted rotors. I'd think that you'd want to stay with oem ones unless you were after the looks.
How are the HPS and HP+ pads? I've read conflicting views on here.

HP+ pads have VERY poor initial bite. Its like your brakes don't work for the first 1/2 second you push the brakes.
Find someone with them on in the local forum. See if you like them.
The HPS are mostly like stock, which is a good thing. I think they are suppose to fade less during a fast autocross course.
Neither are ideal on a race track though.
He listed rotors as well. Are aftermarket rotors BS legal? I was under the assumption they were not.

I autocross for fun and I will try to make a move into tracking the car as well... Class wise its not as important as getting a decent replacement on a rotor. I understand the title is somewhat misleading but I do participate in autocrosses...
From what I have read and asked about HP+ are a good pad with what I am looking to do... I have spoken with some reps from HP and they say for a daily driving/ autocross/ track they seem to be the best overall option

For a short track they are excellent but for a faster track they can fade a little .
A good compromise nevertheless ....
If you like lots of very corrosive brake dust, noise, rotor wear and average braking, the HP Plus are perfect...OK, that's a little harsh, but I'm just no fan of the "High Performance" Hawk compounds.
If you are using the car for daily driving and autocross, you only need an oem replacement type of compound, imho. There are tons of good pads out there that don't have that Hawk dusting problem. If you are serious about running track days, it becomes a different deal...

The brake fluid will be changed but my rotors need to be replaced because they are worn. So with that in mind I was looking for everyones opinion on and aftermarket rotor. As I said before I know the stock rotor is more than sufficent but I figured I might as well look at all my options.
