They made a huge difference in SS. Kevin and his co-driver were on Hoosier wets. As an example, Kevin's co-driver was 2.1 ahead of me on Sat, but I got him by 2.4 in the dry on Sunday.

Although the rest of us were basically screwed, at least I can be proud to be the only race tire guy in the trophies. I think the Lotus could have put a smack down with rain tires.

It was fun to watch Mike and Jason duke it out in BS. Congrats to all the trophy winners.

P.S. We got some pretty good video, including a nice collection of driving "bloopers".

Kevin was on Radial Wets on Saturday. driving Jerry Lee's car.

A far as pressures go, we ran the 285's in the 37 to 38 range...I don't think more pressure is going to help save the shoulder...they're just too far outside the sidewall.

What a weekend it was. I was bummed to lose out the last trophy position after my 3rd run on Sun, but happy it went to Reza instead. A very nice guy who rightfully deserved it for simply driving better.

I looked at MaxQData afterwards, and found that I was 1sec faster on my 3rd over 2nd run, up to the last right-hand turn before finish. Blew it by overbraking and understeering I think. I have the raw data if anyone is interested in taking a look, to help me understand that critical mistake. Still learning to use MaxQData effectively post-race.

Congrats to Jason for showing RX-8's full potential, again. As for Mike, there is no disappointment in being second to Jason. Your time will come. For the rest of us, we better catch up fast or get skirted by Debbie, who did very well in-spite of only having one dry run on Sat.

Big thanks go out to Mike for the RV hospitality and post-race encouragement, and Rick/Debbie for last-minute magnet number change.

I didn't see any noticable shoulder wear when we ran the 285 Hoosiers, but ran 42+ psig up front, front pressure is extremely critical WRT to shoulder wear when on limited camber applications, typically the wider tire is more forgiving on shoulder wear ...

Oh. Then the dare wasn't in effect. (I didn't get a chance to see the class race since Megan and I were stuck in grid waiting for impound who never came to release us -- though it's hard to blame them, with the downpour at that time.)

Good job getting in the trophies.

The real rain man was Scott McWho who beat SS in his AS C4 on Kumho SPT street tires in the rain.

Yeah, that was a fun event and great to see so there are so many good BS cars in the region. After driving Jasons' car on my third run I'll definately be adding that nitrous kit. The 3/4 throttle application works wonders and is barely noticeable to the untrained eye......

Seriously, considering this was my first event in over a year and I'm used to driving an HS MINI I wasn't unhappy with my performance. Of course next time I'll have fewer excuses so don't expect to get away so easy.

Should be fun

Stuart

Just for kicks and giggles, course trace and MaxQData data are uploaded now. JPG shows the time differential of 1sec where blue cross-hair (2nd run) overlays the red cross-hair (3rd). The zip file has the raw data to be interpreted in Chart function, found here: http://www.maxqdata.com/MaxQData%2026b%20PC%20Chart.exe.

Looking at what happened, it seemed that I sacrificed line selection in the course of looking for speed thru slaloms. I was carrying too much speed into the finishing turn, without enough turning arc to smooth the line by then. So the safe bet is I probably wasn't looking ahead far enough to the left-side cone at the exit by the second to last slalom cone.

To get the real story you need to zoom in and compare the runs.... Run # 2 you coasted a lot vs #3 using the brakes more. Either way what you need to do get fast is get rid of all the white spots on the zoom map, white is coasting, you either want to see red (brake) or blue (gas).

You drove a better line on run 2 but coasted less on 3 and that made up the difference, well until the last turn when it looks like you broke to late.

btw I see in run 2 you broke and in run 3 you lifted for the chicane in the back. You should have taken that wide open.

Yeah, on our quickest runs I took this flat while Sean lifted. Even though I was on the limiter for a while after that, it was probably most of the 0.4 difference between us.

I assume you were not running your MaxQData Jason?

No I did not have it with me. But I was flat in that section both days, even going into 3rd gear on my last Sat run right before it.

Thank you for the analysis! By coasting, I took it as foot off both brake/gas? If so, I guess I have the tendency to lift off gas completely, do nothing, before squeezing the brake, prior to committing to a turn. I'll work on faster transition between brake and gas.

Additionally, I was probably not aggressive enough on the gas in a few places by never getting the line correct. Hit the rev limiter maybe once or twice, besides upshift to 2nd after the start.

An unrelated note, did you upgrade the software to 2.6b? It seems unlock code is required for 5hz operation. I assume that my 2.5c is operating at 5hz all along, until I decide to upgrade the s/w.

No.... The spin was after the showcase turn as I left the three cone slalom and went in to the left that took you to the NW corner of the lot. If you look at CRXs run #1 at about 25 secs is the turn where I lost it. I walked with a couple guys at lunch and looked at my marks and can not figure wtf I was doing there that got me to spin. McWho was talking some $hit that I looked slow around that turn on my first run so maybe I was just pushing to hard on the 2nd run. There was just a slight elevation change there but all I can figure was to much entry speed.

That was my first spin in the car, guess I was over due, so I did it big time.

We all attributed it to the added pressure of having to make up time on a mid packer...

More like the added rear air pressure to stop the Atwater understeer.

btw My first run Sun took the weekend, the rest were just fun runs.

Yep, the first run would have done it...by what, a few thousandths? Anyhow, the way I look at it, we've run against each other six days and I've been faster a third of the time...not bad for a mid packer in a new car...

Of course, I've yet to put together two days back to back...which gives me something to look forward to...so, I've got that going for me...

I was actually disappointed that I didn't hear him talking sh*t about me over the PA. He kept it quite professional from what I heard. He had some good material lined up when we talked before the run group.

Yeah I was not sure the San Francisco region members would share in the "rainbow warriors" humor I planed to poke at you and your team mate. I had plenty to work with every time Dietz came over and feed me more crap that he was talking about ***.

I would tell you to work on your hands and seating position, but whats the point you are not going to fit in that car.

Too much shuffling? You should see Sean's hands.

As far as seating position... I think it's pretty good actually. Not that I could do anything about it if it wasn't. The friggin seat doesn't even recline.
