Altima SE-R VS. RX-8

I have news that an Altima SE-R from my friends car crew "Team Shift" has threw a challenge my way and is now challenging me to a one on one Autox event. Just wanted to hear from you guys and your opinions. I'm really thinking on taking up the SE-R's challenge. I mean, we ran together on a few canyon runs when i had joined "Team Shift" at one of there meetings. About 9 of us went canyon runs all day, but the Altima saw how well my car handled and asked me if i wanted to race so i did. Due to his horse power i lost, but not by much since our RX-8's lightwieght balanced the score out, but a lost is a lost.... so what you guys think about accepting the challenge to autox?

You'd kick his *** unless you totally suck. I can tell you for a fact that a Mazda6s will run circles around an SE-R at an autocross event. And if it can, you better.

SMOOOOOOOOOKE HIM haha I've always wanted to say. Seriously you should be able to run circles around such a large and heavy FWD car, at an autocross. He maybe able to catch up on the straights.

How small is the track?

The Altima SER has some good power but the tourqe steer is definatley there, not exactly tight in the corners when I test drove one. Maybe with some supspension mods it's better? If it's a tight track I don't think you'll have that much of a problem. But if the track has some decent straights he will make up a lot of ground quickly on you.

I took a trip over to the SER forum (i like the Altima SE-R but that torque steer)--those guys have to shift their asses off to get 14.3s and the like in the 1/4. Most of them are getting 1/4mi times very similar to 6spd RX8s--so it should come down to the driver. On the track it should not be a contest--RX8 hands down. I cannot imagine that these cars are selling, unless they are heaviliy incentived--cause for $29,350 base--what wouldn't I get over it?

Yeah, on a track I think the 8 should hand the Altima (which I like also) it's butty without a problem. I hope the best, stay safe, enjoy, and make sure you share with us the video...PLEASE!!!

The was an Altima at the autocross school I went to a few weeks back. It was a 2.5 L but I don't know if it was -R. Me and my 8 were consistently 2-3 seconds faster than him on a 27 second course. You could tell he was pushing it hard too. Funny thing was that it only had 1500 miles on it and still had its temporary license, and he was autocrossing it. Good for him.

Of course he may not have been very familiar with the car yet. But I think the 8 is a much more capable autocross car than the Altima as long as the driver doesn't get in the way.

The SER version has a 3.5 v-6, basically the Maxima engine and some suspension upgrades so would be far better off then the regular old 2.5l version Altima

The Altima SE-R is a 3.5 litre V6. Info for educating pleasure below.

Nissan Altima SE-R 2005

If link doesn't work head over to Nissan

6sp RX8 on the track vs Altima SE-R? Having driven both, but not on a track, I'd still give the nod to the RX simply on handling. Keep the revs high and abuse your better handling.

I would definately take that challenge, kick his *** then watch his face when he sees how people look at the 8 and he doesn't even get a second look driving around in an Altima.

Dude, i've tracked my car twice, once at the big track at willow springs, and once at button willow, both in cali. an i have kept up with 04 manual m3's, wrx's, and sti's, all of us stock of course. u should do this altima up wth no problems. best of luck, and dont' let us down. make sure u hit the right apexand keep the revs high. heel toe is the key. :D

I'd go for it! I mean the 8 can keep up with a 350 on the track with no problem. You should be able to shake him during the tight bends, you might want to practice and have a nice suspension set up.

Wow, that is alot of lose by in a 1/4 mile race? Are you a A/T RX8? With all seriousness, I am not trying to bash here, but how did you lose and if you did lose how by 1 and a 1/2 car lengths? I have a cousin who owns a SE-R and I smoke it everytime, dead stops, highway, stop and go, btw I got the 6sp. Anyway, if you want to beat him in the 1/4 turn off the DCS/TCS and dump the clutch at 4000K and keep those revs high! Will do the trick everytime. Have fun and be careful! :D

A V6 Altima will beat an RX-8 more times than not in the 1/4 mile most likely. I'm guessing your cousin has a Sentra SE-R...

That or his brother can't drive a stick.

An Altima SE-R will pull a 14.4 1/4-mile rather effortlessly, and less if pushed hard. No way in hell you're doing that with an RX-8.
