Aero development?

Has anyone done anything as far as aero development with the car? Other than the Mazda com stuff.

Good question. If I had money I would totally be making parts to try and maximize down force (not necessarily heavy df, more like df in the right places) and air flow.

If I had the resources, I would seal the whole bottom of the car. Get ducting for the side vents to a sealed engine bay, front ducting to the radiator and custom a vented front hood with a duct to extract radiator heat by sealing it behind the radiator fan. Get rid of the table top rear trunk and custom a real coupe rear windshield that ends with a slight angled duck tail. Lose the dual exhaust and get a straight pipe for the exhaust piping ending with a slightly angled upward single tip exhaust in the middle of the rear bumper.

you can start by ordering the 09+ underpanels--they actually do help--quite a bit.
To add to the above good ideas--i would go with a smaller outside mirrors
better front lip (sort of like the autobaun front bumper with addtional spitter/ lip, clean the underside of the rear up a lot with a small diffuser. shave the doorhandles, hide the windshield wipers, tires and wheelwells closer, open up the side vents,
and paint it red.
OD
get rid of the rotor symbol on the hood
wheels closer to the

^^ nevermind that you have no experience with it.

It really depends on the time in the corners vs straights, the speeds involved, and the specific designs involved.

Never have

I have an APR 3" splitter and GTC-200 wing. For autox (sub 60 mph) it doesn't make much if any difference. For mid-speed time trial events it comes in nicely allowing higher (75 - 90 mph) sweeper and transitional speeds with little impact on the straights.

Not having a weak engine helps ...

Check out the link in my signature. My main focus is a front splitter for the mazdaspeed bumper for downforce on the track used in conjunction with my apr gtc-200 wing. Because of the intrest a splitter for the stock bumper will also be made. A underbelly pan will be made to reduce drag/lift and I will be doing something in the back to smooth out the air flow to my rear mazdaspeed rear diffuser.

Measure, measure, measure. Wind tunnels exist for a reason sports fans. Also, what is the purpose of creating more downforce for you? Additional drag when you drive to the liquor store? Fast and Furious best in show award?

It's funny, the more I learn about how the big boys do it the more I understand how the only answer is to measure things. Often a common theory can HURT a project. What works for one car can hurt another.

agreed--dont need as much downforce as we need more slip.

Dang. Tough crowd. The new 32 car (pictured) is faster than our other two flat black cars. With much better planning and more $ we were able to shave close to 200 lbs. Dry weight 2,601 w 1 gallon, cool suit. No fat zzz driver

At the AAA Speedway roval we talked KJ into taking off his poser STX wing, he went 7mph faster on the straits, and posted a quicker lap. Sure he wined about the car being loose, but loose is fast.

But again, you have to consider that the old-style dual element aluminum wing isn't anywhere near as efficient as the current shaped single element wings. Not saying that the same wouldn't have occurred with one, but rather that we'd need to test both back to back to compare the degree of how relative the general differences are.
