2019 SCCA Runoffs Thread

The SCCA National Championships starts next week at VIR. I will be there in my RX8 (STL class) and posting updates throughout the week. I'm trying to to get my hopes too high as the rules do not currently favor this car but I've got a thousand or so laps on this track over the last 10 years and I'm hoping that will tip the scales a bit.

I'll be under the OPM tent if anyone is in attendance. There are several RX8 in T4 (Touring 4) including OPM team owner Tom Fowler. Tom's car has two events on it so it is far from developed but Tom is an absolute wheel man so a podium is never out of the question if he's driving.

I suspect other RX8 drivers are on the forum so feel free to jump in this thread. Races will be live-streamed, I'll post links later next week.

Testing starts tomorrow, qualifying Tues-Thurs, racing Fri-Sun.

Qualifying officially started today. T4 is done with OPM team owner Tom Fowler (see above) in P3 behind a couple of BRZ's. The power steering failed while the car was sitting under the tent - got that repaired with new wiring. Kill switch was shorting out - replaced that. Intermittent ignition miss - new plugs and coils. All this meant he got one test session so we are all pretty impressed with P3 in a car with zero development.

My car isn't quite right. It is down on top-end power and I think it is because the TB is closing intermittently (will post data). Shawn www.tunedbyshawn.com has been fantastic in helping me tune the car and sort out issues. He looks at data after every session and makes changes based on it and my feedback remotely. Donald (the Dr.) https://www.facebook.com/FaasRacing/ has also been invaluable. He built the motor and checks in on the car hourly. Car is handling great and should be even better today on stickers.

You can watch live timing/scoring here:
https://www.scca.com/events/1992861-...essions/latest

STL should be out today around 2. Also going out in my Spec Miata around 1.

Alan

Speed is green, TPS is blue. Would appreciate any thoughts. Traction control has been disabled.

the pic you posted is not showing up.

if you have an obd2 logger, you can log TPS and TBS and see. i have my car detuned for the class by closing up the TB on the top end to cut power. i can see how much the TB close.

ive raced the car when power steering wasn't working, it sucked but it's manageable. i was even considering converting to manual rack to take some weight off the front.

Thanks,

OBD2 is not connected because I can log all that and more via the Adaptronic and or the AiM. Looking at TPS logs was how I found it. Pedal position seems to be correct. Trying a new TB today to see if that fixes it.

Very familar with PS failure. First test day it went out after the first curb. Seems to always be the torque sensor connection.

IDK, Images show up for me?

image is not showing up on any of my PC browsers but shows up on my phone mobile site.

looks like a sharp drop in throttle. does it feel like the engine complete shut off for a split second? i've been dealing with power cut off for awhile also. here's a post about it. i see VersaTuner in your sig but you mentioned Adaptronic. A few of us using VersaTuner has experienced random power cut off. we had thought it might be Versatuner related. but since my event this past weekend, i think it's more related with small battery.

here's my finding

when my power steering went out, i just cleaned the plug and cleaned the ground cable contact for the power steering and no issues since.

I originally was going to use VersTuner but now run Adaptronic. Need to change my sig.

No, it is not what you are seeing. Just feels soft on top end, even with a 55mm restrictor plate

Images are hosted on imagur which has worked for me before. I'll look into it.

You might double check the solenoid tank vacuum integrity and VDI solenoid operation to make sure it’s operating properly.

Looks like an erroneous TPS signal
You would most definitely feel the loss of power as the TPS signal flakes out for a bit but your speed continues to climb. Looks like out of Oak tree.....
Good luck! Have been following on live timing, really want to skip work Friday

Wish I had better news to report. Car is handling great, just does not have enough top-end power with the restrictor plate to be competitive. Currently in the top half of the grid with one more qualifying tomorrow. Making some progress.

did switching the throttle body fix your TPS signal issues? what kind of power does rx8 make with 55mm restrictor plate?

I agree, I looked back at older data and it was there, more severe at times.

No, Still see dips in TPS so maybe it's harness but I don't have a known good backup. Restrictor does an excellent job across the rev range but it really affects top end. I'd rather not publicly comment on HP numbers. PM me.

Car is feeling stronger after a few changes. Unfortunately I lost an axle seal on the first lap of the last qualifying session today. Hardship lap in the morning to make sure nothing leaks then race around 2.

I'll upload some video if it's not too disappointing.
