2008 40th anniversary question

Hi everyone, I've been lurking here and shopping for an 8 for a few months, and along the way decided that autocrossing sounds like a blast. My concern is with the upgraded shocks on the 40th anniversary. Would that bump me out of stock class? I didn't think it would, but thought I'd ask.

Also, I think I remember seeing that those shocks have a special bracket that won't fit others? I'm worried if I get really into the sport, the 40th anniversary might be a bad choice for me.

Thanks for the help. I'm currently not much of a car guy. Everything I know about suspenstions (not much) I learned on this site and still have a huge amount of stuff to learn.

The 40th is legal for stock class, now C-stock for SCCA autocross. Stock class, its a preparation level, it doesn't mean all OEM parts. The shocks were part of an option package that were factory installed so you should be good to go. Even if you were to change the shocks, those are one the few allowed modifications in stock class so as long as the spring perch is in the same place on the replacement shocks. The technical details will come later, more importantly buy the car and go to an event, and welcome to a new addiction.

Don't know hpw tall you are, but watch out for helmet clearance with the sunroof. Nothing worse than having to race with your head at a 45 degree angle.

I'm 5'10", so I think that means helmet clearance is a non-issue? How many inches does a helmet add? 3?

And replacement shocks normally have the same spring perch?

Sorry for the probably annoying question, but I'm pretty clueless right now and don't want to regret my purchase in 2 years.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm 5'9" and hit my head in a friends 40th with a helmet on. He also had Konis and they had the rear end sitting really low. ended up returning them to Koni. Not sure what the deal was with that.

The perch on the Bilstein is different than the Koni.

The perch and it's location on the rear shock body, that's why the ride height is fubar

did you already buy the car, or are you still shopping? if you've already bought the car, just go drive it. nothing to be done about it. if you're still shopping, i would recommend a non-sunroof version.
