If you want sirius radio why wouldn't you just get the factory kit so you can utilize the steering wheel controls? I never understood installing a generic sirius kit in the 8 when the factory headunit is already set up for it.

It was cheaper this way and I liked having the capablity to take the head unit out and place in the boom box when I went to the beach and use it when I was at work.

I am now selling it because my wrx has the factory kit.

Just providing a cheaper alternative

When I first got my 8 I researched this.

If you have an 04 model then those head units are NOT set up for satellite. Even if you get an add on box and antenna from an rx8 with satellite, you still can't use it unless you change the head unit to one from an 05+ as well. By the time you track down all that **** and install it you've got 10 hours and 2-400 bucks in it.

Also a great benefit of the portable units is that you can move them between vehicles and locations. If you have two or three cars and you also want to listen at home and/or work, you can either buy a bunch of radios and subscribe them all, or you can buy one and take it with you, simply buying cheaper docks for each location.

That said, these portable sirius radios tend to sell for about $50-75 if they are still activated, not including extra docks etc. while used radios with no current sub seem to sell for much less. Most of the value is in the subscription. I've bought several of these in hopes of getting one that would remain activated indefinitely and have had mixed results...

I've had sirius since about 04 and had many different radios/tuner boxes in that time and have also done some research about how the subscription and cancellation works with these things.

Thanks for the tip and your support on my argument
