Series 1 catback
Need a S1 catback exhaust to replace the OEM. Rust has killed the original so it's a good time to throw something else on.
Ideally looking for the Racing Beat rev8 but I'm open to anything if the price is right, even used OEM. Let me know what you got. Thanks.

/shrug. Failed a state safety inspection and was told this portion of the exhaust was the reason why. They quoted me a price for a new one and to put it on; They've been in the biz for a really long time, so I just took their word for it.
All the aftermarket catbacks appear to disconnect from the mufflers, so I assumed the OEM unit does in some way too. I've swapped off my cat but I never looked at the rear of the catback. My bad dude. Why does everyone here have to be so snarky? Maybe they were going to torch it and weld it on, I didn't ask, cause for the same price I could throw on a decent aftermarket unit or a whole used OEM for less.
Haven't had a single hit for a week, but as soon as someone spots something that they can be a dick about, the posts come rolling in.

You have 3 components.
Header, Catalytic Converter, Cat back.
Only the catalytic converter can make you fail an inspection and thats only if its throwing a CEL.
Any catback exhaust comes with everything needed to bolt directly to the cat.
The pipe you are talking about is impossible to remove without damaging the muffler, and is included with all catback exhaust kits, and in no way can cause you to fail an inspection

Carbon, in PA you can fail the safety inspection from rust alone, especially if it creates an exhaust leak. All exhaust must exit out the tail pipe, anywhere else is an automatic failure.
Yes, guys, he is talking about the catback, which is all one piece for OEM, and may have separate pieces for some aftermarket ones.
Please avoid thread crapping.

Yeah I'm in an OBDII county. In my defense, the link I posted above shows the intermediate pipe as being a separate exhaust component in the diagram. But you're right, ultimately, it's my fault for not doing due diligence inspecting my own catback.
Sorry for getting a bit snappy, J8635621. My car has been off the road for the better part of 3 months now; This is just the latest wrench in a long series of cogs, so my fuse is microscopic. I appreciate this community cause I would have never come to learn my car without it, but I'm generally reluctant to post here because of things like above.
So if anyone has anything to offer, I'm all ears. Thanks.
Edit: As far as driving to Buffalo, that may be a bit far, but coincidentally the Bills have been my favorite football team since forever. Maybe if I do something nutty like go to a Bills game in Buffalo. :P

I'd get with 200MPH on the issue he knows his stuff and more about PA laws and requirements. If you don't have a CEL, then I would just go to a different shop. Most just scan the car, sounds like this one is actively looking for small problems just to hand you a hefty repair bill

York. I'm the guy you sold that old fuel assembly the other month.
@Carbon The problem isn't emissions. I did have an emissions problem when I initially took it to a shop for an inspection and it failed. I must have knocked a vac hose off when deflooding. They wouldn't even touch my car with a 10 foot pole cause it's a rotary I guess, and sent me on my way. It was a Saturday @ a franchised place, they had an opening, I had time, meh.
Here's where it gets stupid. I dropped it off at a mom and pop shop adjacent to my house to do a safety inspection and to see if they could figure out my vac leak while I was on vacation. Mission success, and they went ahead and slapped an emissions sticker without informing me, but (un)kindly failed my safety inspection. I can't take it anywhere else cause the emissions is already registered with the state. In PA you have to pass emissions before safety, so I'm essentially wearing a scarlet letter; I doubt any other shop would think about passing it at this point.
The bitch of it is, the other shop was obligated to rerun my emissions for free, and probably would have passed my car for safety cause they don't know ****. Good irony. Now I'm out the cost of 2 emissions tests and a safety inspection without a state legal car. We are talking about a well kept 2004 vehicle here, cat on.
I haven't crawled under it yet but I haven't noticed any exhaust note changes, weird smells, etc so at this point I'm still not convinced anything is wrong, but I have to do something to the catback to pass.
Who said California was bad?

I have a oem catback it's sitting in my shed. I'm in buffalo $100 and it's yours Im at work right now so I can't take a pic but as I recall it has slight surface rust but I passed my inspection with it for 2013-2014. So if you want it I'm in outside of buffalo.

I'm interested, but realistically anything outside of ~100 miles will probably have to be shipped. If we could work something reasonable, let me know. Would appreciate some pics at some point too.

20 bucks on gas? Buffalo for me round trip would be around 700 miles, which is at least 3 full tanks in an rx-8. Even shipping at $100 would be HALF of what I'd spend on gas to get there. What's your deal man? I appreciate you trying to help but most of what you've said in this thread doesn't make any sense. I clearly stated I'm willing to drive to pick something up, but when the shipping costs outweigh, or even nearly outweigh, the cost of gas to get it, I'd rather just pay for the shipping; And that's not even taking into account the time lost for using a whole day to pick up a $50 dollar exhaust.

People do not ship OE exhaust, aftermakret exhaust can be boxed up quite nicely because they can be taken apart, the OE one cannot. Thusly you have an item the is 4'X3'X1' approx
Aftermarket you can get the box down to 3"x1.5"x1" approx ( and even that shipping is not cheap (40-50 bucks depending on the retailer)
My "deal" is I am trying to help you come to terms with the reality of what you are asking, in the hopes that in the long run you will realize its not worth it.
Also not sure where you are getting 50 bucks, OE exhaust is well over 600 bucks at a dealer. We sell our old ones cheap because the fact of the matter is. No one wants them.
Also realize their is no way it would even fit in you 8 for transport, didn't realize it was your DD.
So good luck with shipping, IMO when all is said and done you could have a good quality aftermarket one for the same price.

the problem with shipping an oem catback is the pipe that connects the muffler to the cat in most cases cant be taken off. this makes for a much higher shipping cost. maybe start a thread in the ne forum asking if anyone is traveling your way or even half way. lots of helpful members on this site and i would be willing to help out.
