How does the top portion of the rears mount in the car? Are there brackets for bolting them down?

They use the OEM top mounts.

The car was in a fender bender, and the motor is on its last leg. Its just time to move on. The fender bender did not damage the suspension at all. Its really a shame because I really loved it, but I just cant give it the time needed to keep it on the road. I'm getting to old to be in the garage on my back all the time.

No kidding these coilovers are amazing. I had a set of Koni's with PT springs before this and the difference is night and day.

Wish I didn't already buy a set of these a couple months back. Seriously though, these shocks are remarkable. If you have stock shocks or a cheap set of coilovers you have no idea what a properly damped rx8 feels like.

Man I really want these, now that the Tein springs I ordered have been lost in the mail, but they're way over my budget. Bump for awesome coilovers.

One is fully visable between the upper most rear shock and the adjustment spanners on the first pic in the OP. The other is closer to the shuck so you can just see the very top over the the left a little. ***** are in the vicinity, the screws that hold the ***** are in their holes on the adjuster cables. All pieces accounted for.
