30k miles on the rears, give or take. Maybe 10k on the fronts.

I can't answer the "worth" question for you, but there is plenty of life left in these shocks. I've used Konis on previous cars for twice as long as these with no appreciable loss of function. If you can get new Konis for under $500 a set, that's a screaming deal. The best price I've seen online is just under $650 a set.

These are the standard Koni Sports for the RX-8. Fronts are adjustable from the top on the car. Rears must be removed from the car and the shock shaft compressed to adjust, just like any others.

It's only needed to adjust the fronts. I'll be sure to give it to you when I give you the rear shocks. I had it in my console and forgot. Sorry. Rears are adjusted by compressing the rod and then twisting if I remember correctly.

How much stiffer do you want it to be? They work very well with the stock springs, and they worked very well with my RB springs at 1.5F/1.25R turns from full soft (full adjustment range is 2 turns from full soft). There are several people pairing these shocks up with the Progress Technology race springs that are being developed, which are 450 lb/in front and 300 lb/in rear spring rates, iirc.

In other words, they’ll work quite well with anything from stock spring rates up to about 450/300. Even when paired with the stock springs they are a dramatic improvement in ride and handling over the underdamped factory shocks. These are exactly the same shocks as the ones that have won SCCA B Stock five years in a row!

I am selling because I am developing my car for the SCCA’s STX class, and I’m prototyping new coilover suspension packages for a company called Endura-Tech. So, I no longer need the Konis.

The adjusters are the tools Koni includes to adjust the front shocks while on the car (they fit under the factory shock tower brace). Hardware is the top locknuts and hardened washers and sleeves Koni provides with the shocks. Basically, you’ll get everything that would come with a brand new set of Konis, including an additional adjuster (I have 2, Koni usually provides 1 per pair of front shocks).

Having never installed shocks... How much would you expect a shop to charge reasonably? Or is it a DIY thing? I've done all maintenance on my car myself so far, though i do know this will ruin my alignment...

I can't believe these aren't sold.

PBlue: I've shops charge $300 for a suspension install. I did it with the help of a friend and we knocked it out in a couple of hours. There's a few good DIY's around here that will help guilde you along the way and of course having the right tools will speed things up. (spring comperssor, full tool box, beer, etc)

Considering what these retail for, it blows me away. I wish I could have found a set for under $400 when I bought my car...

I personally wouldn't pay a shop to do it. If you've got a decent set of hand tools, a jack, and jackstands, you could knock it out in an afternoon. The fronts are a breeze, the rears are a little more time consuming, but not bad. There are some pretty good DIY directions in the Tech section. The only tool you'll need that you probably don't have is a spring compressor, but they're available for free ($40 refundable rental deposit) at any Autozone. Just make sure to get the "strut" style, like this:



C'mon guys - these shocks are probably the best bang-for-the-buck suspension upgrade you can do for the RX-8! Ditch those horrible underdamped factory shocks and get you some Konis! :D
