FS: RX8 Alternator
Rx8 alternator bought from Mazmart. I bought this as a spare in case my factory alternator died from my aftermarket stereo. But, I never ended up needing it. It was removed from an 8 with 12k miles. $225 Shipped.

Haha, ya I'm busted. Its not my pic. I was at work when I posted and just grabbed a pic of an 8's alternator. I'll get an actual pic of myne later today and post it. Looks exactly the same of course.

It's about veracity and consistency. Almost like a personality litmus test. Would you rather do business with someone who is reliable and upfront or someone who believes in the false tenet that what you don't know can't hurt you?
I've bought stuff and went to see stuff from people on this forum. One time was total misrepresentation. The guy said 4 OEM tires with 80% tread. All 4 were worn down to almost no tread and one tire had a nail in it. This guy was cool as a fat ******* cucumber and didn't flinch. He just nonchalantly said oops and kept conversing with me like I was his friend. This guy was a pro at this sort of ****; it was obvious. He did custom car chops for a living. I could have predicted it. I was going to warn other people but decided not to because I felt there was a chance I might get a warning or a ban. Another time I asked the person before driving down if the item was in perfect condition or slightly worn or whatever and he said it was pristine. It had some small nicks and was a little dirty but I took it anyway because I drove quite far. A third example was a while back when some young guy here whom a lot of you know was selling a ton of crap and had pics of the items lying outside on concrete or dirt. An item from a pic showed what he said was a watermark but was clearly scratches to me. I called him out on misrepresentation and a bunch of people here jumped on me for messing his sale up. Basically these people were saying what I was doing was wrong. WTF? All I ever see on here are horror stories and then a bunch of people gang up on the seller after the fact. If that's ok, then wouldn't prevention before the fact also be ok? Wouldn't prevention be better and the right thing? If something seems shady, we all have a responsibility to alert others whether or not the seller is our friend or a member of our internet "friends" network or some chick you want to bang. People should get a reprimand for loosely and recklessly giving props to sellers they don't even really know. Let's show some common sense around here for once.

So you are playing captain save-a-sale then? Why don't you make your transactions how you want, and let everybody else do the same? Unless the seller is GROSSLY misrepresenting a part (selling a set of ADR's as VOLKS) or is asking WAY too much ($700 for a used aftermarket catback) then I would say that for the most part we are all big boys and girls around here and can make our own business deals.
IT sounds to me like you are a perfectionist in the things you buy. Which is fine, there is nothing wrong with that...I am a bit of one myself, to a degree.
The thing is...anytime you buy used, whether it be whole cars, stock or aftermarket parts. You are taking a risk and accepting some compromise in order to get a lower price. 99% of the time you will not get a like-new part buying used. Very few people take care of their stuff properly, and let's face it...if a car is daily driven on the street, it WILL get damaged. Exhaust canisters will scrape. Front bumpers will take rock chips. Plastic light lenses will fade and cloud. Wheels will get scratches and curbs from the act of driving or from the shitty tire store man scraping them up because he is mad about having to mount some low profiles.
I am not excusing clear and blatant misadvertising. However it is also unreasonable for the buyer of a used item to expect a new item at a used item price.
I have been an online buyer and seller since 1999. I have probably done over 10,000 sight-unseen deals in that time. As a seller I have learned that anytime I can identify a perfectionist buyer, I tell these picky buyers outright that, if they want a new part, they need to pony up the cash and walk their *** into the dealership and buy a new part. Because I don't want to hear their bitching when my used part that I sold to them for 25% of new retail turns out to be (gasp) NOT NEW. As a buyer I have also learned a certain level of REALISTIC expectation. I expect a part that is functional and mostly as described, and a good price. I also usually take the seller's description of condition, and reduce it by 10-20% in my mind, to arrive at the likely condition of the part.
It is human nature for both sellers to talk up their items and buyers to "expect the best" from items they are buying sight unseen. As a buyer I have learned to look past both parts of this human nature and have a more realistic expectation of the condition of what I am buying. I negotiate price and terms based on my expectation, not on the condition the seller states...sometimes people view this as lowballing, I view this as protecting my own interests. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised at getting a part in better condition than I expected, most of the time I am spot-on with my expectations, and every now and then even I get disappointed with what shows up.
But that is the price we pay for dealing sight unseen online, and getting parts at a fraction of new retail. IF one does not like this, one should not consider purchasing used.
