I have only made it halfway through reading this thread, so I apologize if this point has already been made.

Being a potential buyer of the AP and having the desire to obtain MazdaManiac's services associated with the AP, he (MM) has leverage in the secondary market for these devices. That said, based on his pricing I would not expect to spend more than $300 for a used AP; which even at that price would equate to the same cost of a new one (+$99 new purchased from him, service alone $299).

EDIT: The assumption is already made that the service provided does not transfer and is aimed at a specific car; further assuming that any transfer of "custom maps" is irrelevant.
