Take into acount the lack of intelligence it took to do that on a public road, and you can guess the driver's skill. Agree with above, stupid video.

Was the 8 "that slow" or was the 3 "that fast"? If you watch the cars take off the front end of the 8 doesn't continue to rise under accell like it did when it took off.

Yeah that vid is a waste of time, but you guys gotta also realize that the manual 8 isn't really much faster in a straight line than the auto 8 i've driven both.

not the point. you said that the M/T isn't much faster in the straightline than the A/T. 1.5 to 2 seconds is a huge difference. it just might not feel like a big difference because of the way that rotary engine produces power. but the difference is there.

Exactly...there's even been RX-8 meets where members on this board have raced their AT against an MT.

It aint even close to being close.

Consider the RX-8 MT 0-60 compared to a Covette (not Z06) 0-60...most people would say there's a big difference there right? Well that's the SAME difference as the RX-8 MT compared to RX-8 AT.

Is it 1.5 or 2, you don't seem to think a half a second is much of a difference between the two so WHY would you think 1.5 is a huge difference !?

It's closer to 2 seconds, but it really depends on the driver(s).

Ok "buddy", I guess the RX-8 MT is pretty much as fast as a Corvette.

Obviously you own the AT and have some insecurity issues about it...that's ok, hopefully you'll get over it...but the numbers don't lie. Whatever you "felt" while driving them both doesn't mean squat.

This argument is so stupid I'm not even going to try and give you an example how big a difference, 1.5-2 seconds is.

It's significant.

Using VERY crude math I'll show you how significant.

60 mph = 88 FEET PER SEC.

If you take 60 MPH and divide it by the total # of sec it takes an RX-8 to hit 60 mph (5.9 for Manual 7.5 for auto) that equals 10.1 MPH per sec. So when the MT hits 60 the AT is going about 45 MPH. A diff of about 15 mph which equals about 22 feet, or 1 and a half car lengths. That's VERY significant in a "stop light race".

but one more reasons, how do you guys know that rx8 is a AT instead of MT. i can't really tell the difference in the video. or do you guys simply based your assumption on that AT rx8 is as fast as the Mazda 3??
